Jim's tibetan hotel as most of the new buildings in Dali get hot water using solar panels on their roofs.
Dali is not sunny all the year so they also have the usual boiler for cloudy or rainy days but, talking with Jim, I got to know that for most of the year the panels give enough hot water for all the hotel and restaurant.
It's a pity that in Italy we still did not get a law that obliges to put solar panels on new buildings as we have much more sunny days than Dali.

Yunnan is popular because it is an area with many minority etnic groups.
In Dali and the surrounding areas you find the Bai ones.I thought that minority groups were just different for clothes, specially hats, here I learnt that they also have different food, and above all language, also written one, different caracters, not just slang but real languages.
A friend told me that even if she grew up in Bali she could hardly understand the Bai language and nothing at all about the naxi one, typical of Lijiang.

DaLi is a self-government state of the Bai nationality, their wedding ceremony is quite special. If you take the official travel boat, you can have a very interesting party of wedding ceremony. Dont forget to pinch bride's face, it is the best blessing for her. See more pics of the ceremony in my travelogues.

In this particular show's audience participation, selected attendees get to carry the bride away if they answer some questions about the show correctly.
Overall, the show was good even though it was geared for tourists...not exactly a 'cultural' performance. Price fairly steep at 120 RMB a person.

The organized tour included a performance by Bai nationality members depicting a courtship and wedding ceremony. One notable aspect is that after the wedding the bride is often pinched by the guests.
Also, notice the quirky sunglasses and what looks like a large clock necklace.

We came upon a local wedding with people busy preparing food and setting tables. From what I could see, the meal wasn't too extravagant as it was only dumplings and a sausage dish, maybe there were more later.

When I saw the people working in the lands, I thought the agriculture were absolutely biologic. Later, I noted they also use chemical products to fertilize the lands.

At one of the larger hotels in Dali, there's a cultural show with elaborate costumes, dance numbers, and since it caters to tourists, audience participation.
