Dali nightlife: Foreigners Street

You won't go short of any nightlife in Dali. The main area of bars, cafes and restaurants isn't that large and is located on or around Huguo Lu, which is more commonly known as "Foreigner's Street". There is a small courtyard off this street which features some mock wooden-style buildings, such as the Sakura Cafe, where there is the odd disco and bar.

Old City Restaurants and Bars

When night falls, the most fun thing is to just sit outside a little restaurant or bar and watch the life go by you in the Old City. I wouldn't call it a lively nightlife, but it certainly has pizzazz and an odd cast of characters.

Bird Bar: Spend your evening chatting around a fire-pot

Birdbar. This place is popular in the evening. The owner really knows how to make the bar look like home. A little "messy" and absolutely cosy.

The staff will light up pots of fire to keep you warm. The music suits the atmospere. And if you speak mandarin you will find the staff absolutely hospitable. I was offered BBQ baba with honey and i fell in love with it almost immediately.

A lot of backpackers know this place, so you find many westerners as well as well-behaved locals there. It is a good place to make new friends.

A: Airfare from Guangzhou to Dali (stop over at Kunming) would be somewhere between RMB1000 (USD159) and 1700 (USD270) depending on the day and based on today's pricing.
