Favorite thing: I snap this picture from the wall here, it says 'public cleaniness taking care by everybody'. Seemed like they have the heart to take good care of their hometown and couuntry, a good sign and kindness to all.

Favorite thing: Snap from the minority's village in year 2002, my first trip with a gang of five. I visited their house and sit with them taking many photos as well as drinking tea with them and listening to their village talk. The young lady that spoken to me was a modern girl where she already worked in the city but still come back to stay with her family, she told me so much, so much, I can't type so long...

Favorite thing: I'm quite confident this is somebody's house from it outlook. It has clothes hanging outside and shoes, also I saw some pots of flowers and cables. Notice also their rooftops were made of this material, dark old looking, humid, rainy, tropical feels.

Favorite thing: I have taken this picture to show you the way they write. I find it quite interesting to see the symbols quite similar to most of those in South-East-Asian especially Thailand Cambodia Myanmar etc and ancient Malaysia Indonesia. Thess symbols are not just for display, its for real meaning its printed on the street as road sign and all. There are bookshops in Jinghong with books of this language.

Favorite thing: This two girls are tribal, but they already went to school and accepted modernity. Their parents still a little traditional when I visit, wearing most of those colorful beads and silver coins thing on their body. Some young boys were busy gambling with cards, they care not much who visited them, let alone this two young girls to handle us.

Favorite thing: This is the Jinghong Dai minority's roast beef I mentioned. We came here by fluke actually, it was our hotel guy recommended us to taste the Dai foods and we went for a try and first we scream, then sniffle, then weep and finally whimper, all because of the extreme delicious foods. Very spicy but no regret.

Favorite thing: Some piglets are so cute, if you are here, don't miss taking their photos. Piglets in Jinghong are less long hair than those in Northern Sichuan but I suggest you better don't look at the Sichuan specie, they are almost a circle in shape which means those piglet are long hair and outlook are like a ball but able to walk and run, following their mother around to search for foods.

Favorite thing: Not useful for navigating along paths, but this map gives a good indication of the general lie of the land around Jinghong.
The Galanba plain can be seen to the south-east.

Favorite thing: They are called IP-supermarkets.
Basically it is a shop with lots of telephones, each in a little slot complete with a chair just in case you want to have a real long chat on the phone.
You can make phone calls from here at very good rates, especially if they are inter-state calls.
Fondest memory: Not able to make cheap phone calls ?

Favorite thing: Most of the roads are lined with oil palms, yes the palm that produces fruits from which edible palm oil is extracted.
It makes the whole place feel tropical, it gives plenty of shades, and traveller (ie me) loves it.
Fondest memory: Oil palms.
