The Brothers Jiang is a chain of restaurants mainly in the Yunnan Province, but also spreading throughout China (Beijing, Chengdu, Xi'an). This restaurant was the first Brothers Jiang that I had been to, and Echo introduced me to Over the Bridge Noodles. The food came quickly and efficiently, and the restaurant's 3 levels were packed. Sometimes as I walk by this particular restaurant, people are queued up to order, pay and get in, as well as for the separate take-away window. There are some little bridges to walk over, to give it its theme, and all of the windows and shutters are kept open, which is handy when you are not used to the hot spices. The prices are Yuan 6, 10,20,30, 40, and up to 80 per person, depending on which ingredients you want, and you pay at the window before you enter the restaurant. Diet Coke is not available. It is a bit of "conveyer belt style eating", but nevertheless, very nice!

Over the Bridge Noodles consists of a large bowl of hot chicken soup with rice noodles already added, served at 92C. To this is added all the ingredients, step by step from their individual litlle bowls or dishes. Firstly the meat (thinly sliced pork, chicken) is added, followed by the raw egg, vegetables, fried meat, cashew nuts, and assorted condiments. Then stir this with your chopsticks, add some chilli, and enjoy!

These people really can't make western food well. The milkshakes are horrible. Their service is slow and poor. The one redeaming factor is that the Chinese food is okay.

  • The famous dish is the "Over the Brigde Noodles". It is filled with about 10 or 15 different things. Some veg, meats, fish, toufu, breading (?). I don't know. Most of it tasted good and it not to expensive (12Y).

Wei's has some Italian, Swiss, Mexican, Chinese, and Dutch food. Most everything I had was good. Mexican is a bit odd (Brocolli on corn chips?), but good for China. It is best known for Pizza's of course, but sandwhiches and noodle dishes were fine.

As a special touch for a beer you get a chilled mug to drink from.

This is not really food on a stick, but more like food in a stick.
Zhu Tong Fan is rice steamed a bamboo stalk, A traditional Bai minority group food. Rice mix with some nuts of some sort and steam inside the shoot.
    People seemed to ignore
cotton candy man and preferred Zhu Tong Fan.Like just about anything in China, you can be purchase off the back of a bike. I had not seen to many of these Zhu Tong Fan venders around.

They were selling for 1 RMB a shoot, but before you could eat your Zhu Tong Fan, the vender would have to break it open with a hammer to expose the steamed rice. Because it is cooked under pressure the rise in compacted and more like a chewy paste

The only item on the menu!

This should be more in the warning page than the restaurants. But being year of the Rooster I went to KFC to eat my new years day lunch (along with a few thousand other chicken eaters)
The wait was long, and the food was bad. 21 RMB #5 combo got me a chicken sandwich, soggy fries, 2 dried out wings and a flat Pepsi., plus there was no extra charge for being pushed and shoved while waiting in line.
If you cam to China, eat Chinese food!

    Nothing
Eating here is like Peeing in you pants, feels good at first, the you realize you made a mistake and are a fool
