Luggage and bags: I know many people like rolling bags and think they're just great. Don't bring it to Lijiang. You, like many others, will end up carrying it down the cobbled, crowded streets. Think it's safer? How strong is your grip? Are you prepared?
Four images.
Bring a backpack if you can. It'll make your trip here easier. If you haven't tried to carry a rolling bag a long way, here isn't really the place to learn. Aside from that, with the cheap wheels many companies use, if/when those break, what will you do?
Anyway, it's not an easy place to carry rolling bags. I saw more people carrying them than rolling them.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Lijiang can be rainy, of course, like anywhere else... bring an umbrella or a rain coat.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Nothing unusual needed here... maybe some Lomodel for the MSG...
Photo Equipment: Buy the best you can. See my photo lessons on my homepage!

Luggage and bags: Backpacks over Trolleys because the latter are not easy to drag in the old town due to the cobble stones
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Dress in layers...as it could be cold at nights (below 20 even during summer). Highest temp. during summer could reach 30 so light clothing is prepared. Be sure to bring umbrellas as it could rain sometimes. Don't forget your caps and sunglasses as the UV rays are quite strong there.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Anti-diarrhea meds are needed as your gastrointestinal system is weak in high altitude; bring anti-mosquito repellant could be needed during summer; Sunblock lotion a must, too.

Luggage and bags: If you want to stay in the old town of Lijiang, it is advisable to travel with a backpack instead of a suitcase. No cars are allowed here, and it can be quite a challenge to reach your chosen guesthouse and get away from it again , especially because of the cobblestoned streets.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: If you don't travel in the summer and choose a traditional guesthouse, bring a warm pyjama, the rooms are mostly not heated and can be quite drafty.

Luggage and bags: Back pack
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Warm clothes, rain cloth, good walking shoes.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Weather changes drastically there, meaning it's easy to catch a cold especially after you do a hiking for a whole day or take a bus for 9 hours. Bring some medicines for headache, stomachach, and some vitamines.
Photo Equipment: as many films as possible, because you can't stop taking pictures. In Lijiang, you can easily buy films, but when you travel to countryside, it's not easy to find a proper store.
