In the old town, there are numerous small restaurants serving simple Naxi and Chinese dishes at bargain prices (backpacker's dream).
One in particular, shown in the picture, is a fried bread. These breads are popular across many minority groups in Yunnan, but I liked the Naxi version the best. The bread is either sweet or is filled with bacon (pork bacon). They only cost about 2 yuan each, so have one of each type.
This photograph shows the cook of my favorite little restaurant, but I must warn you. When eating there once I got a visit from Mr. Rat! This is no big deal to me, but it may be an issue for some people who don't like seeing rodents in their restaurant. So you were warned.

The YHA Youth Hostel is located in the old town. It is owned by a friendly couple from Wuhan. They have a very nice restaurant, and serve western food and Chinese food. It is a good place to go if you are really craving a hamburger or pancakes.
The hostel restaurant, lots of books and magazines, and internet access.
Also, the owner Li Jun speaks good English and is very knowledgable about travelling in Yunnan.

Located in Lijiang Old Town, it turns a 2-storey anicent house into a breezy restaurant along a river stream that serve fantatic Korea and Japanese food. Few years ago, Kim Myung-ai of South Korea and her Chinese husband came to Lijiang as tourists. Attracted by the natural beauty of the city and the simple and honest people, they decided to set up a small coffee shop here. Today, the mom-and-pop operation has expanded to serve tea, all sorts of drinks, and Korean food. She has also obtained a marriage certificate and a residence permit from China and decided to settle with her husband in Lijiang permanently.
Favorite Dish: Dinner of Korean "Stone Bowl Rice" set, including soup and 3side dishes only cost 20Yuan. A great value for money!

Address: Lijiang Old Town
This bar have very modern and beautiful decorations, located near the entrance of Lijiang Old Town. Only thing I don't like is that they put all the liquor under the light-display, they were all warm when serve, making ice cubes melt quickly, diluted the taste.

A gray color specialty food being cooked on the street. Usually cut in geometric shapes & eaten cold as in a salad.
Favorite Dish: Jidou Liangfen (Chicken-Pea Jelly). Pictured: top left.
Both Lijiang Baba & Chicken-Pea Jelly are daily staples for the locals.

• We liked this restaurant mainly because unlike the other restaurants it was quiet. The food was varied Western and Asian but with a skew towards Japanese food.

I don't know what they sell or serve, but if you're looking for a snack, this seems to be the place to go.

Pretty good Chinese food, though I wasn't feeling well when we ate here. I heard it was good.
