The whole area around Tengchong is volcanic, evident from the fantastic landscape of volcanoes and hot springs. The best place to see volcanoes is at this volcano park and it really is a fantastic experience. Entry costs Y20 and you can climb the steps up the largest volcano Dakong Shan (Big Empty Hill). From here you get an excellent view of the surrounding area including the nearby Heikong Shan. We got an even better view as our guide organised for us to go up in a hot air balloon (Y100). We also got the chance to see some interesting rock formations in a part of the park not normally aceccible to tourists. Please see my travelogue for more pictures and narrative.

This is a beautiful traditional village close to Tengchong, apparently for retired people although I did see many young families living here. It is promoted as a tourist site so there is an entry charge of Y20. However, if you get a minibus from Tengchong it drops you off past the town gates. The village is built on a small hillock

Tengchong famed with its terrestial heat where dozens of vocalnos have activities there in the early history. Nowdays, they are either extinct or dormant. What we can feel it terrestial heat directly is the thermal spring. The springs breaks out of rocks at a temperature of 95 degree centigrade, or even more. You can take a bath in the famous Rehai(Hot Sea) Park several miles away from the downtown area. It's of reasonable price, 40RMB/Hour for 2 or 3 people, a large marble bathrub in a single room. The spring contains much sulphur which benefits our skin and body very much. One thing you may not familiar is that skin feels a bit slippery with the sulphur. Remember, it's good to yourself. A funny experience.

The home of A-si-qi, a famous Chinese Marxist, has a nice garden, courtyard, and artifacts from his life including letters to other Communists, writings, and even his old clothing.
A-si-qi is his adopted name, suppose to sound like eskimo.

There aren't many things that's is must-see in Tengchong and the Tengchong Volcano is a prime example. More like a 'have to see because you're in Tengchong and there isn't much else.'
At least it was good exercise climbing the steps up to this rather small dormant volcano.

This is the pit of Tengchong Volcano...just a big grassy hole. At least there are some stone benches at the top for a quick rest before walking down the steps.

Tengchong in Yunnan Province isn't as popular as Dali or Lijiang but does offer more local flavor. The He Shun Qiao Village is an actual working village.

People are afraid to come here
