One of the fondest memories of my trip:
I was walking in the old town when I saw four kids coming with a soccer ball.
I asked them the ball (body language), they kicked it to me, I juggled with it on one feet for a few seconds, and kicked it back to them with my heel.
Now, let me tell you: I love playing soccer with friends, but I am not a very good player. This little trick with foot and heel could have worked out fine or not, and it was my good luck that it did.
The children looked amazed, they smiled and clapped their hands. I smiled too, and I couldn't resist pointing to my chest and saying "Ah-gen-chin" (phonetic Chinese for "Argentina"). Surely the word evoked images of Maradona and Batistuta to them, because (to my surprise) they produced a ballpen... and asked me (body language again) to sign their T-shirts!!!
I was embarrased and worried that their mothers wouldn't approve my scribbling on the childrens' clothes. But they insisted, so I put my sign (along with "Argentina" in Chinese characters) on each of them, and everybody was happy. After that, I asked one of them to take our picture.
But that's not all! They also invited me to come along and play soccer with them and other friends at a school backyard, not far from there. It was a concrete basketball field, and we were 3 against 3. I enjoyed a lot and did my best to save the reputation of my country (which couldn't be too difficult, as the older of them was maybe 13!). But I am afraid that, at the end, they were thinking that my sign on their shirts was not such a good deal... ;-)

This is the "must see" in the region: the most important Tibetan monastery in Yunnan.

The town is not pretty, but the old town part, with its typical Tibetan style housing, was appealing.

The people here is poor and life conditions are very low. Not much worse than in some regions of my country, though.

Zhongdian was the furthest point in my SW China circuit. It took 5 hours in minibus from Lijiang to reach this Tibetan town. It is at a higher altitude, which means the weather was colder and the...
