I remember my fight into Hong Kong and landing at Kai Tak International Airport. I had a window seat and it sure seemed like we were flying through the city with the tall buildings seemingly touchable as we came in for our landing. I'm not sure if Kai Tek is still used much as there is a new International Airport now on Lantau Island. Kai Tek is an easy bus ride to Kowloon if that is where you want to go.

We took a plane across to Hong Kong...for us I think it's the best way... But if you're coming from Macau then I would suggest taking the Jet Cats...a great way to travel...
The Hong Kong Airport is very modern and user friendly... Once you get to the airport you'll need to catch the train into the arrivals section...
There is also a train from the airport into the city called Airport Express. It is the fastest link between the airport and the city.

The Hong Kong International Airport is at Chek Lap Kok Lantau Island, about 25 minutes from downtown areas in Hong Kong.
By taxi : You can find the taxi's outside the arrival hall.
By Airport Express (train) : links the airport with the city centre and these new trains have space for luggage. They stop at Tsing Yi, where a huge modern shopping mall has developed. At Tsing Yi and also the Hong Kong Station where the train terminates, you can then transfer to the main MTR lines but stay clear of rush hours.
Shuttle Bus : Many Hong Kong hotels also run hotel shuttle buses to and from the airport. Ask your hotel if they have this service.

If you've ever flown into the old Hong Kong airport, you understand the scary 'Hong Kong Curve' approach.
It is the reason that buildings on Kowloon were not allowed to reach more than 16 stories in the air.

The spectacular landings on Kay Tak airport sadly enough belong to the past. Here pilots even needed to take a special exam before having a permit to fly between the skyscratchers around the airport (you can actually see what people are doing in their appartments, which can lead to surprises).
Hong Kong has excellent public transport, although rather full. Touroperators have an wide range of siteseeingtours, which are recommendable to do as first-time-visitors. Hereby one can count the cruises through harbor, bay and Aberdeen (traditional floating market). There is also a ferry going between Kowloon and Hong kong island. It guarantees perfect views from the water.

Fly in from any major international airports. The Hong Kong newly built CHEK LAP KOK AIRPORT is a architectural piece of art. Take a look at the (pictured) bridge linking Lantau Island (where the airport is built on) and Hong kong Island.
Take the express train from the airport to Kowloon or Hong Kong for a max. of HK$90 (about US$12). In about 30 mins. you'll be whizzed from the high-tech airport to town. From Central, you'll be able to take the MTR to all parts of HK! Really convenient & easy! While at the airport, for those of you who intends to stay less than a week, you can get an Octopus Card for HK$200 which will allow you one trip on the express train (HK$90) from the airport into the city + 3 days unlimited usage on the MTR (subway) + HK$20 worth of trips on the bus/ferry + HK$50 refund value (ie. if you return the card to any of the MTR station b4 you leave!). A truly great value for short stays!

Hong Kong is the major gateway
to China and much of East Asia.
International air service is excellent
and fares are relatively cheap. Visitors
should reconfirm onward or return tickets
well before departure. Departure tax is
about US$8 and included on Airline ticket.
In June 1998 Hong Kong opened its new international
airport - Chek Lap Kok - on Lantau Island. There's also
an international train link between Hong Kong and
Guangzhou (Canton) and a new six-lane highway. An
express train to Beijing, China takes about 30 hours.
Several transport companies in Hong Kong offer bus
services to Guangzhou, Shenzhen and several other
destinations in Guangdong Province. There are also
boats that take you to destinations in Guangdong and
the Guangxi Provinces.

Hong Kong's new airport, Chek Lap Kok, is without question one of the world's best and a far cry from the old one, Kai Tak, which it has replaced. Where Kai Tak was claustrophobic at best and bloody dangerous at worst -- with its runway sticking straight out into the harbor -- Chek Lap Kok is spacious, clinically logical, and absolutely state-of-the-art. With its moving sidewalks and people-movers, even though the distances between gates are great, it's still fast and easy to get around. Signage (signposting) is clear and concise, too, which always helps.

We fly to Hong Kong by CATHAY PACIFIC. Here I am looking a little haggard after the flight!
MASS TRANSIT RAILWAY (MTR). The MTR is the fastest and most convenient form of transit in Hong Kong. You can reach all the main areas by MTR. You can buy the value-card called Octopus Card where you have the option of adding value to the card everytime the store value in the card runs out. People in Hong Kong pay transit fares by the Octopus card which facilitates micro-payment transactions. Periodically, card holders pay a fixed sum which is stored in the card and deducted by card readers at turnstiles. We bought the value card, costings about HKD150 (where the HKD50 is the refundable deposit). The value card can be used in many convenience stores such as 7-Eleven and buses as well
