The Temple Street Night Market: Local crafts

by olessiam Updated Aug 24, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The streets are laced with big names like Chanel, Armani and Versace, but there are also local shops and markets.

For souvenirs, and local crafts and jewelry, go to the Temple Street Night Market, which is spread over five-six blocks. The market opens at about 2 pm and is the busiest between 8-10 pm.

What to buy: Traditional chinese jewelry boxes, fans, robes and crafts carved of wood, cheap CDs, accessories and toys.

What to pay: Definitely bargain with the sellers!

    Monkok: Mongkok

by KernelPanic Written Apr 16, 2005

I probably didn't spell that right, but Mongkok is the place to be in Kowloon for discount buys. Don't go to the malls or regular shops, instead go to the street vendors. Clothes are very cheap, you do have to haggle. The tip for haggling is about half of whatever price they have.

    What to buy: Garments.

    What to pay: Depends.

The Harbour City shopping complex has no comparison anywhere else. It extends in many directions.

If you come to Hong Kong via cruise ship, Harbour City is where you will dock.

The shops are fantastic, and there are many restaurants as well.
