The Edge: Live Music + Dance Club
Situated just above Lan Kwai Fong, The EDGE used to be my hangout place, but seldom be there after they changed their redisent band this year. They used to have a big crowd of European expats, and now filled with local youngers and ABCs.
A stylish dance club with two bars, dance floor, live music performance, private booths, lounge and the balcony.
Swindlers: FREE SNACKS! LIVE MUSIC
A brand new live music lounge in Wanchai, decorated with lush velvet and a series of golden chandelier-lamps, a long curved marble bar, with an elongated mirror hanging above, dominate the space.
Live music resident bands every night from 9:30pm.
Happy Hour: Daily 5pm – 9:30pm, drinks at special prices. The wine is good here. FREE SNACK BUFFET during happy hour. They usually serve at around 6pm, not too early. I love the chocolate fountain (with fresh strawberry & grapes) and salami. Sometimes they even have salmon pastry. Yum!!!
Jam Night: Jam with the bands. Every Sunday, 9:30pm -2am
Live Music: Dusk till Dawn Bar, Wancahi
Great place to hang out with friends. Live music starts at 10pm, great Bands. Live performance by some great bands from the Philipines every monday to sunday night. Dusk till Dawn Wanchai, Insomia Lan Kwai Fong and Insomia Singapore have same bands playing, they are switching every three months. Before the live music start, they offer beer for HKD 35, but when the bands start playing they charge HKD 55 for standart drinks. The most aesthetically pleasing bar in Wanchai. Mellow yellow walls and pale purple wooden shutters make it look like a Mediterranean villa. It is very popular with the beautiful, the grungy, and anyone else who likes a drink, dance, and partying. The name is taken from a Tarantino movie, and the place itself tends to be jam-packed at the weekends from dusk till dawn. Have fun!
Insomnia is one of the busiest venues in Lan Kwai Fong. They have a good resident band. Music here is 90s dance pop, crowds mainly executives, airline crews, and tourists age 20-30s and above. If you are going for a conversation, better stick to the bar area which opens out onto the street and gives you a great view of the endless human traffic. You don’t have to leave until 5am, and you’ll only have to wait a while for it to open up again at 8am for a breakfast beer.
Fringe Club: Culture Break - Taste the Local Art Scene
Whether you are finishing your Hollywood Road treasure hunt or just want a little sobriety / culture break from the nearby Lan Kwai Fong drinking sprees, I recommend you to spend some time here for a little culture side-step. There are live music performances every Wed and Fri. And from time to time have art exhibitions and poetry recitals. A chance to get a taste the air of the local art scene.
The Roof Garden is like an oasis in the middle of central with an intoxicating view looking up at the srurrounding highrises. Light meals, tapas and bbq food is served daily, Monday to Saturday from 12pm til late. There is also a buffet lunch on Saturday too. Enjoy alternative drinking upstairs in the new Fotogalerie, surrounded by stark white walls and framed photographs.
Drink are rather cheap compared in other bars in Lan Kwai Fong area.
The Wanch: Alternative Live Rock
Small cozy bar offering free live music nightly, this unpretentious bar is a good hang out for live music fans. Local indie bands play on weekends, quality and style depends... try out your luck. Happy hour is generous: all day Monday, Tuesday to Thursday all day except 10pm to midnight, and Friday to Sunday all day except 9pm to 1am. It's not difficult to find long hair cool musician here, and you'll be surprised to find out that some of them are CEO of big companies in their day jobs!
Live Music: LIVE MUSIC
I was fortuntate to see some live acts in down town Honkers...some was pretty good, some plain horrid!
I remember hearing a Chinese rapper and that made me sit and listen intently and laugh myself silly. It was a site that was for sure! It just didnt cut it for me...... but there were a few 'hard cores' really getting into it.
Dress Code: Some other live venues offering all sorts are:
The Jazz Club, 34-36 D’Aguilar Street, plays far more than just trade and offers a more civilised ambience.
Dusk Till Dawn, 76 Jaffe Road, has some of the best, while its strongest nearby competitor is The Wanch, 54 Jaffe Road
Chasers: Great live bands
Chasers is a little difficult to find, but so worth it once you get there. The bar is tiny, with a small stage in the corner. Its pretty nondescript- very relaxed. The crowd ranges from locals, to business men, to tourists who've gotten the tip.
The music is rock, a lot of polynesian cover bands who are truly just as talented if not more than the original bands.
Its located on Knutsford Terrace in Kowloon. Additionally, there are also some good restaurants in the terrace so its a good after dinner bar. (I think there is a Russian and aTurkish restaurant on the block.

Live Music: Late Night Romping
Fenwick Pub & Disco is a good late night stomping ground. The place is always jam packed after midnight regardless of the day of the week. The place is very noisy and crowded with girls (working) from various countries, mostly Philippina, Thai and Columbian. They are open till around 6:00 am every day. If you have a problem finding a girl in this place, you are seriously screwed. Have fun.
Dress Code: Most are dressed casually, Jeans & T-shirt. You do see some in suits.
