Felix at The Peninsula Hotel: Bar and bathroom with unique view...

by Tripack Written May 18, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

You will meet lot of tourists at Felix bar. The athmosphere was not as good as the view, only one big table to sit around. The deco is original (designed by Philippe Starck). My surprise was the toilets witn an unique view (don't be shy for the neighbours) and the very obliging "dame pipi" (don't forget the tip) it is worth the trip.

But I would definitely recommend you the Aqua Spirit bar just next door for a better intimate athmosphere and real warm-up bar...

Take a stroll along any major streets (especially Nathan Street) at night and marvel at the galaxy of neon lights that seems to extend endlessly into the horizon and feel the vibe of the throngs of people crowding what is possibly the most densest place on Earth.

    "No Name" Bar: Soho

    by my_sansan Updated May 3, 2005

This Place, is a small bar on Staunton Road in Soho, that doesn't even have a name. From the outside you only will see curtain covered windows. But when u step inside this cozy little place u while make a time travel about 80 years back from now. The place is completly decorated in the style of the beginning 1900s, with loads of old pictures on the wall. The matching music completes the timetravel. The growd is a nice mixture of all kinds of different people. And by the way they are serving the best strawberry daiquiry ever.

Dress Code: There is no special dresscode requiered, but I believe it would be inappropriate to show up there in sandals and shorts. (Like in any other bar)

RED Bar + Restaurant: Rooftop Harbour View

by vigi Written Feb 1, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

IFC is the new hang out place for the rich and famous. The best part about RED is the rooftop podium with 260 degree view overlooking Victoria Harbour. The podium filled with outdoor gas heater, so you won’t feel the cold in a windy chilly night. This cosmopolitan bar is quiet and good for chill out. If you want something to bite with the drinks, the RED sampler (HK$228) with 9 surprises from the chef will be your best bet. Standard drinks at HK$50-60.

    Mes Amis -- Wanchai

    by Ewingjr98 Updated Oct 8, 2004

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Mes Amis is a great spot in Wanchai to relax with a beer and watch the people go by. It is a large, clean bar with several seats along the window facing the street. The window was open, so we chatted with a few people as they walked by -- including a homeless guy who stopped to ask for money. Tsing Tao beer here was HK$49 per bottle, HK$3 more than at the Kowloon Mes Amis!

    Kowloon Area

    by Ewingjr98 Updated Oct 7, 2004

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Kowloon is a famous and popular area for nightlife. It has an abundance of bars of all types. We found a few good spots such as a newer bar called Mes Amis, but overall we were disappointed with this area. It seemed like every other bar was a "hostess" bar full of Filipina girls wanting expensive drinks. The other bars in this area we tried were all pretty old and run down. After trying four or five spots over the course of a few hours, we moved on to other areas of the city.

Fair Lady & other "Comfort Bars" -- Kowloon

    by Ewingjr98 Updated Oct 4, 2004

We stopped by the Fair Lady bar when a hawker on the street told us they had beers for HK$19. We figured that was a pretty good price, so we went down the stairs and inside this run-down bar full of women and pink lights. When we sat down at the bar, a lady immediately started dancing on a small stage behind the bar. I ordered a beer and DW ordered a Jack and Coke... the Jack and Coke was HK$88 and they tried to charge the same for my beer until I argued that the person outside told me HK$19. They reluctantly charged me the lower amount.

Next things got a little more interesting. The dancing ladies were all either Thai or Filipina. Two of them sat down with us and began casual conversation... next thing they asked for a drink. I asked the bartender how much and she told me HK$220 (US$27.50)! Finally getting a better idea of what was up, we declined their offer for drinks, finished our own drinks, and made our way to the door.

Hong Kong is full of many such "Comfort" or "Ladies" bars that offer conversation or more (?) in exchange for expensive drinks. The women are almost exclusively Thai and Filipina. These places are not worth your money, unless you are a rich man with a wallet bigger than your brain...

Felix bar at the Peninsula: A drink with a view

by shobhanaj Written Jul 23, 2004

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Have a drink at the Felix Bar in The Peninsula hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui. It is located on the top most floor and offers great views of the Victoria harbour and of the skyline of Hong Kong island. There is also a restaurant and makes for a wonderful romantic meal.

Dress Code: Dress well. Hong Kong generally dresses down - even at operas you see T-shirts with jeans and a backpack. However, check before going in here. They sometimes are shut for private parties as well.

    Kowloon

If you are looking some of the old Suzie Wong style bars in TST then check out Ashley Road, (Red Lion Inn or Ned Kelly's Last Stand), Bottoms Up , 14 Hankow Rd or the Kangaroo Pub , 35 Haiphong Road, Tsim Sha Tsui.

Someplace Else in the basement of the Sheraton Hotel, (20 Nathan Road) isn’t a bad place either to hang out. They have a busy happy hour which offers a buy one get one free from 5 pm until 8 pm. They also have live music as well. The popular disco music starts at around 11 pm, and is very popular with locals, expats and tourists. They do serve food and it is of a.

Felix ‘s is at the The Peninsula Hotel , its very trend but has some great views also. Most of the hotels have some great night life.

There are plenty of small karaoke bars around, just walk around the back streets and you will find them.

    Aqua Spirit: Cocktail with gold

by Quinevere Updated Jun 4, 2004

Located at the 30/F of One Peking Road, Aqua Spirit is a luxury and sophisticated bar where you could enjoy the stunning view of the Victoria Harbour while enjoying a glass of Aquatini filled with gold pieces in a cocktail with the taste of Lee Chi. But gotta mind you this bar requires a minimum charge of $120 each. From there, you could see the top view of those classic chandeliers hanging to the restaurant Aqua Roma & Aqua Tokyo just a floor below. From the name, you could imagine it's the restaurant with Italian and Japanese cuisine. The minimum charge is $380 each for dining there. The Chinese restaurant Hutong at the 28/F requires $300 each as minimum charge. All these restaurants and bars belong to the Aqua Group with contemporary design. Heard that it's all owned by two asian guys who designed the interiors. Some other fancy restaurants of this group include WasabiSabi and Water Margin at Times Square. The food quality is excellent and you could see the chefs really made lots of effort to satisfy the senses of customers in taste, sight and smell. Shui Hu Ju at Peel Street and Graham Street are also worth a fortune to enjoy a good meal with friends or family.

    Dress Code: smart and chic
