For an authentic dim sum experience at a resturant packed with locals, check out Jade Garden in Times Square, Causeway Bay. Just ask the host inside on the first floor for an English menu for Dim Sum, and you'll get a menu that allows you to check off the boxes of the food you would like to try. Once you have marked up the sheet, hand it to one of the staff members milling about and your order will be brough to you shortly.
We got steamed rice flour rolls with assorted mushrooms, pan-fried dumplings with shrimp, baked vegetables buns, pan-fried taro, and deep-fried water chestnut cake. My favorite was the water chestnut cake, which had a crunchy and sweet taste, and since it was deep-fried, you couldn't really go wrong. My boyfriend like the pan-fried taro cake best, which I didn't have as it included pork.
We walked out feeling pleasantly satisfied for the cost of only 101HKD. For the price, food, and experience of authentic HK dim sum, give Jade Garden a go.

A local gentleman, who stopped to help us when we came out of the underground station at the wrong entrance on our way to Victoria Peak in the evening, recommended Jade Garden to us, and we weren't disappointed!
We actually visited twice. Once in the evening.....I was keen on trying things we don't have in the UK, so chose something I hoped was like a prawn dumpling.....the waiter was very patient in explaining that what I had ordered was sweet dough to be dipped in condensed milk....& did I really want this?!?
The food was excellent, the service good, and the restuarant although very big, busy and very close to the cruise ship terminal - we felt that it was good value.
We also went for a dim sum lunch, which was excellent. We had hoped to find a place where the ladies go round with their trollies/baskets, selling their cooking for that day....and we weren't disappointed here. The ladies were lovely, and although sometimes we weren't sure what we had bought until we bit into it, it was great fun......
We wouldn't hesitate in recommending the restuarant.

It was great to try this meal while we were in Hong Kong! A lady brought around trollies and we could choose the best dishes from the trolly after seeing them. We choose 5 or so dishes and tasted each one of them. It was very good! Everyone must try it. Some restaurants don't have the trollies you just have to order from a menu which isn't as good. Make sure you find a restaurant with the trollies...and take lots of friends, it is better in a group (you can choose more dishes!).
