Sogo Food Court: Best value local cuisine

by lindyz

Sogo shopping centre is underground on your way going underground to get across Salisbury Road to Victoria Harbour, sort of near the Sheraton, a bit hard to really explain how to get to it, but if you go underground to get from Nathan Road to Victoria Harbour, you will see it!!! Sogo is actually a Japanese Department Store, which is quite interesting for a wander, but we didnt buy anything there. But we did come across their food court and we really should have eaten here more often as it was delicious and fantastic value. The one meal we had here consisted of Beef and rice noodles, fried rice and fish balls for a total of $98HK which is about $12AUD.

Ngong Ping Village: Many options

by lindyz

On our day trip to Lantau Island we stopped at Ngong Ping Village for light lunch and the options were many, although most were western. We chose .... Subway (I just love subway for a healthier fast food option!) and Frank had a Kebab as well.Subway was pretty much the same as it is all over the world, so for me it is a very safe option!!! We shared a foot-long ham and cheese subway with a juice, total cost was $58HK which is less than $10AUD so comparable prices to here in Australia.Frank had a lamb kebab from Ebeneezer's Kebabs and Pizzeria and it was good too.

Starbucks chains: Great coffee and light meals

by lindyz

There was also a Starbucks right around the corner from the Hop Inn, gotta love the Hop Inn for location location location!!! So Starbucks became an alternative venue for breakfast, and somewhere where I could buy myself a very nice morning coffee, a bit nicer than Maccas!!!The Starbucks around the corner closed down while we were there, but re-opened in the iSquare shopping Centre, which was only like a 2 minute walk from Hop Inn. Standard breakfast here would be a cappuccino, cinnamon danish and a sausage roll .... all for about $68HK which is about less than $10AUD!!!Also consumed here was .... chicken and mushroom pie, chocolate danish and almond walnut twist .... yum yum!!!

Pizza Hut: Fantastic menu options and service

by lindyz

I was also told about the Pizza Hut restaurant right around the corner from Hop Inn by Carole and I think we ate there about 4 times, mainly because of its proximity, but also great value for money and menu options. We could get a large meal for 2 here for about $12ppAUD which is amazing value. But also the menu options were much more varied and interesting than any Pizza Hut ive ever been to in Australia. I would highly recommend Pizza Hut in Hong Kong if you want a fix of western food.

Dont remember the name!: Dodgiest restaurant out

by lindyz

We walked past this local restaurant many times every day, so thought it was worth a visit for a quick and cheap meal, but never again! Food was indeed cheap, but tasted not so good and staff were rather unpleasant. After our meal, I walked outside to take a photo (which I do for most restaurants to do my tips!) and this guy came out yelling abuse to me .... I have no idea what he was saying but Im sure it wasnt pleasant!!! Frank has Pork and rice and I had Beef and rice with a beer and an iced tea for $144HK which is about $18AUD, so not even as cheap as I would have expected it to be. I do have the photo I took from across the street, just gotta find it now!

Sky Cafe: Reasonable food - great location

by lindyz

When we visited the new ICC we decided to have lunch at their cafe, not really expecting too much, but it was quite nice and reasonably priced. Frank had Beef noodles and coke and I had salmon caesar salad and water and total cost was $180HK which is about $22AUD

Chuk Yuen Seafood Restaurant: Rather expensive local cuisine

by lindyz

This Restaurant was right across the road from Hop Inn, and we often looked at it from our bedroom window, so we figured it was worth going there .... at least once! We chose not to go back, the food was ok, but service not so good and it was rather expensive for local food we thought. They are open Monday to Saturday from 11am to midnight and Sunday and public holidays from 10am to midnight. I cant really remember what we had, as so many things on the menu were very odd! The food was ok, but portions a bit on the small side, so I would not really recommend it. Total cost of the meal was $429HK which is about $53AUD which I would NOT say is cheap!

Outback Steakhouse Nathan Road: Classic Western Cuisine

by lindyz

We had just arrived in Hong Kong, still trying to get our bearings and YES .... very tired and hungry! So we went for a wander down Nathan Road and took the easy option for our first meal in Hong Kong .... at Outback Steakhouse! We have one of these Restaurants only about a 5 minute drive from our house, and although the food is nice, its quite expensive. I had always thought too that this chain was an Australian chain of restaurants, but apparently its American.Staff were very helpful here, the menu looked reasonably priced (cheaper than in Australia!) and there were lots of interesting looking options on the menu, so we chose to dine here. Very easy to find, on Nathan Road, upstairs on first floor. We ate popcorn chicken for entree (much nicer than KFC's popcorn chicken too!). I had a Chicken BLT for main and Frank had a Ribs and Chicken combo and we had a beer and a coke and the...

Atlier d Joel Robuchon inside the Landmark Hotel: Out of this world !!!!

by jlanza29

I have been to the original Atlier de Joel Robuchon in Paris a couple of times, and I had been told that this one inside the Landmark Hotel doesn't miss a step !!!! And boy I couldn't agree more ... PERFECT is the word !!!! It's basically a reproduction of the one in Paris. The food is to die for, and I can't say enough of the mash potatoes !!! what they do to such a simple dish is beyond words !!!! We decided to have seafood and I must say the lobster ravioli is something out of this world !!!! The wine list is 50 pages of anything and everything you can imagine !!!!Now be warned the prices are extremely high, not only are you eating in one of the best restaurants in Hong Kong (it has 2 Michelin stars), but your also inside the Landmark Hotel in Hong Kong. We paid $2,200 HKD for dinner about $300 US.The service, the food, the vibe ... 100% PERFECT !!!!!!HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT !!!!!...

The Jumbo Floating Restaurant

by traveldave

I was not sure whether to include the Jumbo Floating Restaurant in the "Tourist Traps" section or "Restaurants" section. I did not think the food was particularly good, and the decor was a garish mixture of Ming Dynasty and contemporary Chinese styles, but it was a fun experience to take the boat from the pier out to the restaurant.Small floating restaurants began appearing in the typhoon shelter of Aberdeen Harbour shortly after the Second World War. Many were inspired by, if not operated by, local Tanka or Hoklo fishermen who spend most of their lives on the water, living in houseboats and buying supplies from floating shops and other businesses. Furthermore, it was cheaper to open a restaurant on a boat than to buy a parcel and erect a building on land. The Jumbo Floating Restaurant is one of two floating restaurants owned and operated by the Jumbo Kingdom, a business enterprise...
