The Lobby at the Peninsula Hong Kong: Afternoon tea worth waiting for

by FinIT13

One of the things you have to do when in Hong Kong is having afternoon tea at The Lobby of The Peninsula. We bring visiting friends and relatives here for a little of the old-world charm and we never get tired of it. Why do we like to come here once a month for afternoon tea? Because of the charm and elegance that the entire trip adds to the afternoon. Service is prompt, courteous and attentive without being overly intrusive. The food never disappoints. The only hassle is that they don’t accept reservations, so you have to come early or you end up queuing for a table, sometimes up to an hour or more. But we always wait without complains, because this is something worth waiting for.

Coconut Forest Vietnamese restaurant: best is pineapple

by picek

We became fond of this restaurant because food they had was nice and affordable and we came to dine here often when we were staying in Tsim Sha Tsui area. It is clean place, staff friendly and service is effcient. They seem to be popular with locals since they took almost all tables in lunch time and dinner. That tells you something of the place… you will get tasty foods here.We also had or wedding diiner here with family, so that they can try something different, real Asian stuff. I liked grilled eggplants and spring rolls which they come with large salad leaves (vegetarian varieties). My husband liked fried rice with seafood, and I tried some spiced vegetarian fried rice by myself which wasn't that nice. They had baguettes with garlic which I used to like for breakfast and nice vietnamese coffee. The best of all was fried rice served in pineapple with fair degree of spices and chunks of...

street vendors in Mong Kok: roasted chestnut in Mong Kok

by picek

Great place to try roasted chestnuts is Mong Kok; they are roasted by the road, so they are warm when you'll buy them. When they use charcoal they are believed to be the best ones. I loved sweet roasted chestnuts, which taste like honey and has nice full flavour, something different than usual ones without anything. Don't have to say more, the best is to pay attention to vendors and try by chance, it is great snack by the way. Some vendors are located on Mong Kok road, which is between Mong Kok East and Mong Kok MTR stations.

Pizza Hut restaurant: Local taste pizza

by FranceSky

The restaurant is regularly created a new taste pizza and promoted the set menu (included pizza and soup or spaghetti) around HK$145-200 good enough for 2 people. The pizza full of ingredients are called 'Super supreme' and 'Thousand island seafood', I like the pizza base is stuffed crust pizza which is a mozzarella cheese stuffed in the crust.

Delicious street food (Dai Pai Dong)

by FranceSky

The Hong Kong street food called Dai Pai Dong is the cheapest local food. It costs from HK$5-20, a bowl of noodle with meat, vegetable is about HK$20. You can choose your food (fish ball, chicken wings, wontons, braised beef, turnips, vegetable, tripes, cuttlefish ...) in the containers of the trolley. You can take away or eat in the shop.

Cafe Too: it's real BUFFET!

by FranceSky

One of the must try gastronomical experience in Hong Kong, I recommend buffet if you enjoy eating a lot ^ ^. My favour is Cafe Too where located in the Shangrila-island hotel, one of the luxury 5 star hotels. It's a chic, grand, comfortable lightning buffet restaurant. We had a joyful experience with the International buffet, appetizer counter included sushi, vegetables, salad sauces; seafood counter included lobsters, oysters, clams, crabs, shrimps and...); Chinese food counter, Asian food counter, Italian food counter, and dessert counter absolutely abundant choice! No wonder it's good ambience, smiling, good service, enough waiters to provide service for clients, we are easy to find them for aids.Reservation best before one week. Don't miss the fresh salmon, tuna, shrimps to dip and eat with soy sauce, wasabi, and loyster, oyster all are fresh are the main roles in buffet. The dessert...

Ko Lau Wan: Fire pot (fondu)

by FranceSky

I think Chinese meal is an good experience for western peoples especially if you never try it. `The 1st time to eat with the two wooden long sticks, chopsticks, without the fork and knife. `The 1st time to eat all the food likes soup, seafood, meat, vegetable similar like buffet table.`All the meals on the table are shared among your friends and family. The piece of meat/fish/vegetable you like to eat, you need to take it with chopsticks or spoon. I like to eat fire pot, especially diner with a group of friends, order abundant plates of different seafood, meat, vegetable on the table. Select the food you want and put it in the hot water pot until it cooks. The hot soup can be different ingredients e.g. chicken soup, pork bone soup, beef, fish soup .... spice or no spice.... Don't forget to try a bottle of abricot soup, it is a partner drink for a hot pot, sour taste, it helps to...
