Hong Kong International Cricket 6s

by gloopgloop

Don't know much about this sport, but this cricket match has 6 people on each side and I guess the rules are as normal. The competition in early November attracts lots of expats and visitors. The Kowloon Cricket Club (KCC) is located at 10 Cox's Road in the Jordan district of Kowloon.DirectionsIf travelling to the KCC via the Mass Transit Railway (MTR), leave the subway at Jordan Station via Exit B2 towards Queen Elizabeth Hospital. You will surface above ground on Jordan Road and directly in front, at the traffic lights just past the bus stop, is the intersection with Cox's Road. KCC is approximately 80m along Cox's Road. Alternatively take Exit D through the Prudential Centre on to Nathan Road and enter Cox's Road via Austin Road or Tak Shing Street. MTR Exit E also joins Tak Shing Street via Tak Hing Street.

Football: Carlsberg Cup 2006

by SWFC_Fan

I visited Hong Kong in late January 2006, at the time of Chinese New Year. One of the special events being held to celebrate the New Year was a 4 team football tournament at Hong Kong Stadium - the Carlsberg Cup.The 4 national teams taking part in the competition were Croatia, Denmark, South Korea and the hosts, Hong Kong. A number of the European-based stars were missing from their respective teams, but the players that lined up were still of a very good quality.I paid 220 HKD for a ticket in the East Stand Upper Tier that entitled me to watch both of the semi final matches which were played back-to-back on the warm sunny afternoon of 29th January 2006.The stadium was far from full, but the atmosphere was good. Schoolchildren and families took the opportunity to see a standard of football that they wouldn’t normally be able to watch in Hong Kong. The first game saw a very impressive...

Lantau Island: Hike the Lantau Peak

by idy

From the Po Lin Manastery (493m) in Ngong Ping, there is a trail up to the Lantau Peak (934m), which only takes about an hour or 2 to complete. From the peak, one can follow the trail that continues on to a small town on the other side of the mountain. Those who are in relatively good shape should not have any difficulty completing this trail in one morning or afternoon.Lantau Peak is Hong Kong's second highest peak, but it is the highest point a hiker can reach in Hong Kong, as the highest peak, Tai Mo Shan, is occupied by a satellite station and access is thus restricted. On a clear summer day, the scenery on this route is spectacular - you'll be able to see the Big Buddha and even the Shek Pik Reservoir. However, it could get pretty hot in summer, so be pretty to sweat buckets for the privilege. In autumn or winter, the temperature is perfect for hiking, but since its mostly overcast,...

Lantau Island: Hike the Shek Pik trail

by idy

This is a relatively easy route, beginning near the Shek Pik reservoir catchment area and ending at the Wisdom Path near the Po Lin Manastery. It should take an hour or 2 to complete (1 way).Since the route goes through the forest, it is shady most of the way, and you'll get glimpses of the Shek Pik Reservoir along the way, either through the tree, or from a lookout point where the trail turns a corner. From the Wisdom Path, the path starts out as a dirt trail, which turns rocky as you near the mountain passes. Closer to the reservoir, the trail turns sandy and coniferous trees appear more frequently.Ending at the catchment area, one'll be able to catch buses to Ngong Ping, Tung Chung, Mui Wo and Tai O along South Lantau Road. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Bring water!
