Markets, Hong Kong

This is Hong Kong's most famous open-air market. It opens at 2:00pm but really comes to life at dusk, with a multitude of stalls selling everything from watches and leatherware to clothing and souvenirs. Other attractions include fortune-tellers and occasionally, Cantonese opera singers.

The Wanchai Market is a hive of activity 7 days a week. It is predominantly a food market with anything from meat products (fresh and preserved), veges, fruit and anything else you can dream of. There are also plenty of hawkers selling their various wares and numerous shops of all descriptions as well as many restaurants. If you love flowers, you can check out this old bazaar. A wide variety of fresh flowers, seeds and dried flowers, etc are on sell along this place. Shops normally open at 8:00am – 9:00 pm. A few open till 11:00 pm and one opens till 5am.

Known as “The People’s Night Club”, this open air bazaar is brightly lighted up at night. You can find numerous activities happening around this place, such as shopping, dining, palm reading and street performing. A couple of hundred street stalls, selling Hong Kong’s traditional food, accessories, toys, lighters, ties, and other inexpensive merchandise can be found here. The activities around this place normally start from 12 noon - 11pm.

Normal city side streets by day, the night market takes several city blocks of streets and turns them into an outdoor shopping experience like no other. You can find merchandise of any and all descriptions at a price that's always up for negotiation. Souvenirs, designer knock-offs, unique items -- whatever you're looking for, someone will be selling it at the night market.

Go to the Markets - although I find it hard to actually buy anything there - so much haggling and discounting - I am just tired of these acts. But the atmosphere is really there - be there esplly during Chinese New Year eve and prior to that - you will see lots of stalls selling things for preparation to usher our new year.

Also there are lots of stall food and some are very good. I especially enjoy eating soybean curd - taufoo fah and fishballs on sticks, chicken wings etc.

Jade Market, Yaumatei - very small market but lots of stalls selling charms, figurenes etc. I dare not buy if you are really looking for real jades - but for fun, a trinket or so for souvenier is not bad. Go early in the day - lots of bargaining!!!

Go shopping at the night (flea) markets. LOTS of fake stuffs - and they are good fakes too! Worshippers of Prada, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Bvlgari, Rolex etc - take note!!!!!!! After bargaining, you should not be paying more than £10 for these fake designer rip-offs! Computer softwares are even cheaper - you can get 5 for HK$20!!!!!!!!!!!! And that includes VCDs of current hit movies too. They are all within that price range.

Flea Market Shopping in Mongkok.

I ALWAYS go berserk... well, not always, :-) whenever I'm here. My friends would give me a long shopping list of fake stuffs to buy home for them. If you've always wanted to own a Chanel, Prada, Bulgari etc accessory but can't afford it, come here to buy. I bought a fake Gucci watch and wore it back home just to see if anybody could spot that it was a fake and well, nobody could. Even when I told them it was a fake, NOBODY believed me. So, that's to show you how good the quality is.
