STANLEY MARKET - check out my travelogue on Hong Kong_2
We took the double decker bus to Stanley Market one afternoon. The ride there was pretty long as Stanley Market is at the other end of Hong Kong island. I remembered passing through the 'old' Wanchai area before turning into the highway, through a tunnel and along the coast. The journey along the coast was kinda cool - the sea looked so inviting :-). We also passed Repulse Bay - beautiful place, could have a better name, though.
Stanley area is a nice posh kind of area. Nice restaurants and pubs overlooking the sea. Its really a cool and relaxing place ... somewhere to get away from the city and chillout during the weekend.. although the journey there can be excrutiating (for me, at least).

Stanley is a beach area on the other side of the island from the city. Its major point of interest is the market there. I spent many a pretty Hong Kong dollar in here!! The bus ride to Stanley is part of the attraction of going there. It passes around beautiful bays with stately homes. The buses also run past Repulse Bay another popular beach in Hong Kong.

This is the village of Stanley, it was once a fishing village, but now totally residential and the home of the Stanley Markets.
Although this market is not as good as Temple Street, if you have time it is another enjoyable day.
Easy to get to by bus, the winding narrow road in a double decker bus is a trip on its own. On the way up you will notice gondolas, these are at Ocean Park.
As you come into this village there are public toilets on the right hand side of this photo.

About 15 minutes bus drive from the city, you can reach the Stanley market, a nice place for shopping but also for a quick escape from the busy downtown. Here in this bay there are also lots of restaurants and nice places to stop by and rest but surely the most attractive spot for tourists is the market where you can buy absolutely everything for the resonable price! Sometimes you can see the rowing competition, as it was the case when my girl friend and me visited this place.

Hong Kong is full of open markets where vendors sell everything you can imagine. Take a stroll, take in the sights and smells, and make sure you bargain your way into a great buy!
The most famous is Stanley Market. It's a great place, but be ready for incredible crowds. My mom used to make me wear a leash in order to keep track of my whereabouts!

You know how all those office ladies from Japan fly into Hong Kong with 5 kg of luggage and go home with 25 kg? Well, Stanley Market on the south side of Hong Kong island is where they go to buy a lot of the clothes they take home. There's no haute couture here - just cheap and cheerful clothing at ridiculous prices. Great place to stock up on summer tee-shirts.

Bargains. It was a long journey. I travelled there by using subway then catch a bus.
