The high speed airport express train is a very good way to get to downtown Hong Kong from the airport. You can purchase tickets just outside of immigrations at the airport or in the train station. Kowloon is the third stop on the Airport Express train. The cost is HK$90 and the trip takes about 20 minutes to get to Kowloon Station.
When you finally arrive by air in HK the fastest but not necessarily the cheapest way to town is to take the Airport Express Train. Cost is HK$180 (US$23) for a return ticket. Trip time is 23 minutes exactly from the airport to Central Station HK Island.
Apart from the Airport Express there is a wonderful underground system in Hong Kong known as the Mass Transit Railway or MTR for short. This system offers fab coverage of Hong Kong and Kowloon. See my travelogues for the subway system map.
Location: Located at Chek Lap Kok, 34km (21m) northwest of Hong Kong Island. Airport Information Authority counters can be found on levels 5, 6 and 7. The Hong Kong Tourist Association Counters are located in the Arrivals hall, level 5 and in the transit area, and are staffed 0700-2300, with brochures and an Internet information link available 24 hours a day.
From Hong Kong Island follow road signs to Western Harbour Tunnel. Once out of the tunnel, drive along the West Kowloon Expressway; follow Airport road signs and cross the Tsing Ma Bridge to the airport island. Continue along North Lantau Highway to reach the airport. The airport is served by five limousine companies; taxis and public buses are readily available from the Ground Transportation Centre adjacent to the passenger Terminal. The Airport Express Line operates trains which leave the airport every ten minutes; it is a 23 minute journey from the airport to Hong Kong station, also stopping at Kowloon (tel: 28 81 88 88); free shuttle buses from the rail stations serve various hotels. Citybus's frequent, wheelchair-accessible luxury Cityflyer coaches serve major destinations in Hong Kong, Kowloon and the region day and night (tel: 28 73 08 18). High speed ferries (tel: 29 87 73 51) run between the airport and Tuen Mun, with a shuttle bus from the Terminal to the Chek Lap Kok Ferry Pier. MTR Travel Services (tel: 29 93 22 11) and a number of other coach companies offer a variety of travel services for journeys to mainland China or Macau.

The Airport Railway is comprised of the high-speed Airport Express (AEL). It takes approximately 23 minutes between the airport and Hong Kong Station in Central, with 2 stops(Tsing Yi Station and Kowloon Station) en route, operating at speeds of up to 135 km an hour. The fare is HK$100 for a one-way adult ticket from airport to HK Station.
We got Airport Express return tickets on arrival, which were HK$160 each (~£13) and included shuttle bus transfers right to the hotel entrance. Unfortunately, we had to leave early to catch our return flight and the buses only start running after 6am, so we had to get a taxi to Kowloon station on the way back, but that only cost HK$43 (£3.40), so not exactly a fortune.
We were extremely surprised the first morning to find that our 5-year old Octopus cards were still valid and immediately loaded them up with HK$100 each, which did us for the whole week, including a couple of snacks from 7/11 shops.
You can buy one of the two available packages for airport express (one way, or both ways) that include unlimited MRT rides for three days. If you were to be in Kowloon for three days and plan to ride on MRT often, they are good deal. If not, just buy one way or two way tickets. They are called Airport Express Travel Pass.
I just came back from HK and found the two-way airport express with 3-day unlimited MRT rides very convenient.
Once you get off the station, just ask at the shuttle counter. They will tell you which shuttle to take.
This tip might be a bit redundant but still..
Catching the airport express is the fastest and easiest way and yes it convinient too.
The biggest asset im my opionion is not the express itself but the Intown check in (atleast when flying with one world alliance) as can add so many extra hours in town instead of spending them on airport
Get in time to airport use Airport express:)
The operating hours are 0550 to 0115 daily. Trains run at 12-minute intervals. The journey time between Airport and downtown is about 24 minutes.
The station downtown is very modern and clean. Everything is well signposted. We found it a very pleasant experience.
The fastest way to travel from Hong Kong International Airport to downtown is by the AEL.
It stops in Tsing Yi, Kowloon, and Hong Kong Island (central). It takes approx 23 minutes to get to the Central Station in Hong Kong Island.
This is also the most expensive way to travel. From airport to Tsing Yi costs around $60 and to Kowloon $90 one way per person.
The ticket counter is located in the middle of the arrival hall. Free shuttle buses are provided for major hotels
Public transport in general is super-efficient, fast and cheap. The airport express leaves many other world cities in the dust! It's a comfy 30-minute whizz from Chek Lap Kok airport to the heart of Hong Kong.
Check-in areas in the city centre stations also ensure a stress-free time on the way back to airport. Excellent stuff!
From airport, you can travel to downtown of Hong Kong by airport express. It's very fast, convenient and cheaper than taxi or bus.
When you collect the luggage at belt, come out to the departure hall and looking for the sign that show "Train to the city".
When you return to airport from Airport Express station, you will reach the check in counter area of many airlines.
Airbus is the most convience transport in Hong Kong. When you come out from the arrival, pick you lauggue, you can see the singal board, (photo at your left hand side). There are two main route of buses. FIrst with a "A" in front of a number e.g. A11. It is usually a 'Express" bus which is the faster bus carrying you to the destination. Second one with a "E" in front of the number E31. It is a much slower, because it needs to stop quite a lot bus-stop. It picks lot of people. Usually we like to go to the upper deck " they are usually double deck" so it can view more and see far away.
The new airport is located on a island far from the city. Take the airport express train to the city center and from there take a cab to your hotel. It's much cheaper and you can get a discount if you're a group.
Taxi fare to Central Station (IFC) it's about 300-350 HKD.
When you leave HK and you have to check-out hotel at noon, Airport Express is the right choice because you can check-in your luggage in the city center and then move around the city. The ride to the airport it's about 25 minutes.
