Hong Kong Peak Tram

In Hong Kong, I strongly recommend you to visit the Peak!
And when you visit there, the Peak Tram is the best way.
They run daily every 10 -- 15 minutes.

To the Peak Tram station (bottom), you can take the No.15C bus from the Star Ferry, central.

Most extraordinary and kind of extreme way to get to Victoria's peak. The tram goes on a peak at an angle maybe 60 degrees. Its kind of hard to stand on feet while riding the tram. But the view on Hong Kong and surroundings is amazing.

Peak Tram

The Peak Tram came into service in 1888. Since then its given locals & visitors a spectacular view of Hong Kong & the buildings that line the side of The Peak as they travel on it.

The Peak Tram Terminus is situated on Garden Road & the tram departs from here every 10-15 minutes. The service operates from 7am to midnight every day. Single or return tickets can be bought at either terminus as well as appointed travel agents.

The best way to visit Victoria Peak

If you want to visit Victoria Peak, which is must see thing-to-do whilst in Hong Kong, then the best way to get up to it is by taking the Victoria Peak Tram. It's a funicular railway that runs along 1.4km of track up a height of 368m from Garden Road near St John's Cathedral in Central right up to the Peak Tower. It began operation in the same year as the Star Ferry started operating, in 1888 and is really only used by tourists meaning that it can get very busy, especially at peak (excuse the pun) times. As you queue inside the lower station building, you'll pass through a small museum with old photos, machinery and an old wooden carriage.

Open: 7am-midnight everyday. HK$22/33 (single/return)

Large crowd queueing to take the tram

This picture was taken on Christmas Day about 2pm when I was coming out of the tram at bottom (of the Peak). Everyone was rushing to take the tram.

Good thing I couldn't find the Tram station to the peak, so I opted for the bus instead. The bus wasn't crowded at all and it was much nicer taking the bus (No 15), especially if you sit on the upper deck.

Take the tram when you're returning from the peak, it's less crowded then. (but that's around 2pm) It will be rather crowded if you're returning at night.

No visit to Hong Kong is complete without a trip on the peak tram! once at the peak there is 2 shopping & eating Malls. The peak Galleria has a better view and also has a Madam Tussards.

To enjoy the view without spending the earth get a coffee from Pacific Coffee and relax in their comfy chairs and enjoy the view!

Climbing 373 vertical meters in eight minutes, the Peak Tram is a fun and painless way to ascend Victoria Peak (commonly referred to as “the Peak”). The tram station can be reached foot, by taxi or city bus, or via a free shuttle bus from the Star Ferry Pier in Central. It is located on Garden Road, which is northwest of Hong Kong Park. A roundtrip ticket costs HK$33, and the tram runs daily from 7:00 am to midnight.

This Peak Tram is not really a tramway but a cable-hauled funicular railway climbing the highest point of Hong Kong since 1886. Indeed it is Swiss made and ofcourse the pride of Hong Kong. The track is 1.4 km long with a gradient of between 4 to 27 degrees! And rising from 28 m to 396 m above sea level. Is something huh?

Running for more than a century, the Peak Tram has never had an accident, because of the very great care and safety investigations. So donot have doubts about the strength of the cable which carries about 8500 passengers a day.

Peak Tram is pulled by steel cables. Climbs 373 metres (about 1,200 feet). It is very steep that the uildings you pas look like they are leaning at a 45 degrees angle. You will love this trip..
