The ride on the so called Peak Tram is just amazing. It's like being on a roller coaster as to the angles it travels! It can be very full. Make sure you sit on the right side by the window going up or left going down. It's absolutely facinating!

An absolute must is the trip on the Peak Tram (a funicular tram which has operated for more than 100 years) up to the summit of Hong Kong Island.
The Peak Tram runs every day between 7:00 am and 12:00 midnight operates every 10-15 minutes and takes about 7 minutes to reach the summit.
You can reach the lower terminal on foot from the Star Ferry terminal (Central) in about 10 minutes.
Prices for this spectacular trip are one way: Child 6 HKD age 3-11, Adult 20 HKD or return Child 9 HKD, Adult 30 HKD.
For the best overall views of Hong Kong I would advise doing the trip twice day and night.
When you get to the peak there are shops and restaurants, currently they are working on restoring the Peak Lookout building which is due for completion early in 2006.
For panoramic 360 degree views you can walk around the top on a 2 mile circular walk along Lugard and Harlech road.
A final bit of advise DONT VISIT when there is low visibility go on another day.

Peak Tram.. The easiest way to climb up to the victorias peak.
In order to get to the tram station you need to take the bus 15C from the central than in 10-15 minutes you will be there.. You may wait a queue to get to the tram but it wont take long.
Tram Costs 20 HKD for one way, and 30 HKD return which is the most expensive transport in Hong Kong.

The Tram Peak has been running since 1888, so it's not just a very pleasant ride, but also a historical route. Take it up to Victoria Peak, which gives breathtaking views of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, across the Victoria Harbor. At some point, the tram goes almost vertically and you'll feel like you are hanging upside down!
Directions: From MTR Central J2 exit, about 10 minutes by foot

The peak tram I feel is a must for everyone visiting. Although I often wonder if it is a lot like tourist attractions here in NY where many locals have never been but every visitor goes.
I took the tram both ways up and down. Took an insane amount of pics both from the tram and also at the peak. Just wish there had been better weather.

The Peak Tram is not only fun but efficient way to get to the to of the Peak.
I am not sure this is a transportation tip or more of a must do activity... I enjoyed it very much.
Imagine to queue something like half an hour to get in a rather derelict tram that climbs its way up to the top of the peak, cutting through green folliage and hitting the branches of the trees.
Can you imagine it? Ok, now imagine that you look through the window and you see one of the most amazing views of HK with its skycrapers and bay and harbour.
It is really memorable, or at least that is how I feel about it!!
The track is 1400 meters (4592 feet) long.
The trip takes some 10 minutes only but with the gradient of the steep at 27 degrees in some points I can tell you it feels more like a atraction drive than a transportation mean.
It runs every 15 minutes every day of the week.

The best way to get to the top is via the Peak Tram, a funicular railway that carves a steep
I would suggest getting seats at the front of the tram on the right-hand side for the journey skyward .. otherwise it doesn't reallt matter as its still an incredible journey. One word to describe the views from this vantage point is "Incredible"

One of Hong Kong' s tramway is a cable-hauled funicular railway, operated by Peak Tramways Company Limited since 1888. The 1.4 kilometres line runs between Central and the Peak, with four stops en route, climbing 373 metres on gradient as steep as one-in-two. The line carries about 9,000 passengers a day, mainly tourists and local sightseers. A single trip for adults costs $20. A bit pricy, and [although not recomendable for people in poor health] it is a much greater accomplishment [and more fun] to walk all the way up!

Take the Peak Tram up to the top of Victoria Peak. In 1999 it costed us HK$30 for a one way ticket.
The tram terminal is in Garden Road, Central...behind the Citibank Plaza.
The tram operates between 7 am to midnight and takes about 8 minutes one way. It runs every 10 minutes so you shouldn't have to wait long.
