The flea market.

The flea market is a wonderful place to buy different kind of things. You can find all kind of different things to buy and there is no limit how much you can bargain. It is up to the seller, if he wants to sell or not. A good salesman doesnt sell if he doesnt make some money on the deal. The typical things I bought was t-shirts and things made in India by handycraftmen. I never bought any spicies here at the fleamarket, because i think it shall be fresh.

Anjuna Wednesday Market, Goa

This weekly event has rightfully earned its good reputation. Markets abound in India, but this is a special one. Sprawling between the village houses and the open fields, under a canopy of coconut palms, set against the background of the sea with a sailing boat in the distance, decorated here and there by a whitwashed Portugese church, this is the best setting a market can have. The merchants come from many regions in India, and also from Tibet. Clothes of all colors of the rainbow, tablecloths, spices (equally colorful), tea, music CDs, drums, souvenirs, handicraft: all of these and a lot more can be found in the Anjuna market.
There are little refreshment bars / tea houses on the way, and a very pleasant bar-restaurant with live mi\usic of the 60s and 70s.
So, come here for the shopping experience, but also for the atmosphere, for the views, for the great variety of people you will meet.

Cows on Anjuna Beach, Goa
4 more images

In Anjuna we found a long strip of beautiful sandy beach with coconut palms. As we descended we were welcome by two cows lying lazily on the beach, undisturbed by all the tourists. There were many tourists on Anjuna beach, but most of them were sipping their drinks in beach cafes and bars, built on stilts overlooking the sea, and the sandy beach itself was not crowded at all. There were quite many local tourists as well. The water was pleasant but it was quite windy (in late February) and swimming was not easy.
The less pleasant experiences on Anjuna beach were the various peddlers who were annoying somtimes, and the stray dogs who went around the beach in groups of 3-4, sniffing everyone and everywhere.

Anjuna Flea market-Not to be missed

Held every Wednesday, if you are in or near Anjuna you should make the effort to go. There is such a variety on sale here. Jewelery, clothes, second hand paperbacks, sarongs, carvings etc. Just don't buy the cigarettes as they are fake.

You do have to bargain hard even if it means walking away. But do remember when it comes down to 10 rupees who needs the money the most.

Plenty of food and drink available.

This is my second time in Anjuna this year and watching the sunset is really something special. Whether you are sat on the beach or at a bar, this is not to be missed.
