The wagons/ comparments of Bombay or Mumbai subarban trains must qualify to be infamously THE MOST OVER CROWDED PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN THE WORLD ! One can experiance the same exhilarating feeling if one were to mange just boarding it,especially south (churchgate) towards North bound (Virar) during the peak hours of 5.30 to 7.00pm or in the reverse direction in the mornings between 8.00am to 10 am. Even for the strong hearted I would not reccommend the 100 mininute jorney, but may be you could get off (if YOu can actually!) at one of the intervening stations, however do remember to buy your ticket at least till Andheri station if travelling south to North,so that in case you cannot deboard, you will not be fined for ticketless travel! Well actually an American friend of mine was so fasinated when I told him about our "automatic" system to get in and get out, which is in reality the surging and rushing in or rushing out crowd that literally automatically pushes you in or out if you were in their way!Women could only try this in the women only compartments PLEASE.

The most recognizable remnant of the British era completed in 1924 was the final departure point for the British to finally leave India in 1947.
Boats to Elephanta Island (famous for carven caves) are launched here and the impressive building of Bombay's most famous hotel, the Taj Mahal Hotel is just behind.

This railway station is a baroque, cathedral-like building with vaulted roofs, arches, Gothic spires, flying buttresses, gables crowned by neoclassical sculptures, stone carvings, and exquisite friezes - it's a real architectural gem, spectacular day and night.
(India's very first steam engine left this station in 1887.)

Specially located: set out on a rocky jetty in the sea and connected to the shore by a causeway which is free of water only at low tide.
It contains the tomb of a Muslim saint, Haji Ali.
Inside, the shrine is full of colored-mirror mosaics.

A bit further away (30 km) from downtown, a public beach which is popular with the local folks. It is especially crowded around sunset when hundreds of people hang around.
