High tidal waves are the most important problem of the old Digha beach, which sometimes make swimming, insecure. Digha's old beach isn't as large as it used to be due to heavy soil wearing away. Big stones and solid steps are use to seize the beach.
The beach at Old Digha is not pretty good for swimming as there are stones and rocks, so there is high chance of getting injured while swimming. New Digha is mainly best for swimming. Due to high tide and chances of theft, it is sensible not to go to the beaches after 9-9.30 pm.

Since Old Digha is one of the very few popular beaches in West Bengal (India), it gets overcrowded, especially during the winter. And it's little more dirtier too. The better option would be New Digha Beach, which is around 2 km far from the old beach. This new beach is bigger and better than the old beach. It is clean and is not surrounded by a crowded locality. There are hotels too near the beach in New Digha. Motorcycle rickshaw van will take you to New Digha from Old Digha for around Rs 10 per traveler.
The situation above mentioned is not Danger, instead it is very important for those who try to avoid the crowd.

Not all our experience is good about Digha. While coming back we stopped for lunch at Biryani House. We had just kept our car ( See picture), in front of this hotel, without knowing that this hotel patronises GOONS as their waiters and bearers. They came shouting, fighting , Using FILTHY Un- Parliamentary Language, threatening to burn down my friends brand new Swift. with in minutes my friend was surrounded, manhandled by the Goons of the Hotel. They would not talk but wanted to flex their muscles by misbehavig. They even suggested us to go to Police, saying even the Police fear them. The Propritor was equally rough and behaved like a Goon. Naturally a bad boss will have bad henchmen only.
My sincere request to all Travellers : PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE FOR FOOD AND SHELTER. Digha has much much better places to stay which will make your stay comfortable & memorable. We just want to forget this place.

While the kids were enjoying the sea, the fishermen were returning the Beach with their catch. They also caught this sea snake, which according to them is poisonous. They advised the kids not to go deep in the sea and take notice of these creatures. I am not sure this Snake is poisonous or not but it is better to take advice of the fishermen who deal with them everyday.

We had a hectic 2 day tour to Digha from 6th March to 8th March 2009. It was hectic because we got to spend each and every hour differently leaving aside sleep time of 6 hours a day.
