"Delhi Belly" try this

by smirnofforiginal

3 out of 4 of us got ill. Even with a cast iron gut you have to look at it as being inevitable.Telling you to take a LOT of Diocalm (or similar) away with you is like teaching you to suck eggs but really do take what you think you will need and then more!TOP TIPS :If you do start to feel like something is going on inside your stomach immediately get yourself a FRESH LIME AND SODA. Add some sugar and some salt (especially if you are already ill and losing these from your body). Honestly, my driver recommended this to me and whilst it did not "cure" whatever the nasty little thing was that was lurking inside me, it held it at bay for anough time to allow me to go out and about with a supporting supply of Diocalm.Lassi - I was told to have a lassi every morning to get a bit of the local bacteria inside me. I do not know if this helps but it seems reasonable to expect that it would help a...

This tip is not my most favourite or fondest thing or memory on India. This is a tip that I could not find a category for. This is a tip for the traveller who is in the stages of planning their Indian trip. This is a tip which I possibly feel I must apologise to VT and its wonderful members for because in the planning of my journey one of the websites that I found to be most informative was :http://www.indiamike.com/

Adaptor plugs in India

by DSwede

India uses 230V, 50Hz.Outlets in India can be have many possible combinations. It really depends on who was in charge of construction and what materials were available at the time. Most common will be the "old" British 3-pin round plug:http://electricaloutlet.org/type-dHowever, also widely accepted is a combination of the above and the current European 2-pin:http://electricaloutlet.org/type-cOnly in the nicest of hotels may there be a universal outlet that accepts both of the above as well as USA/Japan 2-pin or 3-pin, British 3-pin rectangular blade plug:http://electricaloutlet.org/type-ahttp://electricaloutlet.org/type-g

Food

by illumina

One of the things I miss the most about India is the food - I can spend hours reminiscing about the things we had to eat and drink! Some of my favourites, try them if you can:Masala Dosa (South India, but can be found in most places) - a rice/lentil pancake, with a filling of spicy potato and onion mash, served with sauces (usually one curry sauce, one coconut sauce).Paneer Butter Masala - a vegetarian dish, naturally, it consists of paneer (Indian cottage cheese) in a rich tomato sauce, served with rice and/or bread.Lassi - Yoghurt drink, either plain or flavoured with fruits (Mango is wonderful, but my absolute favourite was the makhania lassi we had in Rajasthan, which involves rosewater and saffron).Nimbu pani - a refreshing drink of lemon or lime juice, sugar and water. Another favourite was a lemon or lime soda (slightly healthier since it uses bottled soda water!).

Wildlife: Indian Ring-necked Parakeets

by illumina

These beautful green parakeets were everywhere in India - we saw them in Delhi's Red Fort and Qutb Minar; at Agra; and there were thousands of them roosting in the trees in Khajuraho. A simply gorgeous sight! One of my fondest memories is the noise of the parakeets in the trees in Khajuraho at dusk!
