Giridih is known for it's scenic beauty and virgin forests, but in the last 20 years the forests have infested by the Maoist guerrillas, but now they have lost support from many quarters as most of them loot people , kill people, extortion and kidnapping of wealthy people has become common. Since, this place too has been their hideout , and there were many incidents of looting the people, this beautiful place was avoided by many. But now things are better, there is a police picket and many police are posted during Festival Time and Winter. Incident have come down drastically. It's safe place to visit again.

Ushri Fall has been a place of great attraction among the Bengali tourists since last 175 years. It was discovered by the Germans about 200 years ago during the search of Mica mines and Coal mines. It became a tourist attraction when Tagore visited this place ( Tagore's eldest daughter used to live at Giridih) and wrote about it. It became a great place to visit in winter and a great spot for Picnic. Every year during winter this place is thronged by thousands of picnickers from Bengal and Bihar as well.
Not so long ago about a few years back, there were few incidents of robbing the picnickers by the so called Maoists of nearby villages. But now a days there is a police picket during winter or picnic time.
The Ushri River, a tributary of the Barakar River, gushes down a steep gorge, The Usri Falls drop some 12 meters (39 ft) in three separate streams. It is surrounded by dense forest.
The character of the gneiss complex of this region is well exposed. Some of the rocks have been split up into blocks of huge dimension whose polished and clean surfaces have been checkered by veins of various hues. The profile of the river bed changes after passing through the falls. The lower portion is mostly flat, slightly undulating, which gives way to gorge like form.

The place offers variety of adventure sports facility. In the morning you can enjoy Hang Gliding, Rock climbing or just climbing training. In the afternoon, it is for water sports like swimming training, water skiing, motorboat ride and all.
Cost around Rs.400 or USD$ 9-10 per ride per person.

The place is surrounded by forests, hillocks, river streams and what not. Just drive down to any road of this place you are amidst in fresh pollution free air. You don't need to do anything just gaze the nature !
Hiking,cycling, trekking all is possible here!

The city of Giridih has a number of scenic beautiful spots , where people go to visit , relax or unwind. The natural beauty is in abundance ! Khandoli Hillock is just one of them, we did not visit many places but place is really special as this place offers the only adventure sports in otherwise backward Giridih or in Jharkhand state.
This hillock is famous for training rock climbing or climbing experience just for fun. Enjoy the nature in abundance!

The Mica capital of the world!
Giridih used to be the Mica capital of the world till 80's. The Germans discovered Coal here in Giridih in the 18th Century just before the British, became the ruler of India. Then with mining...
