INSPIRATIONS: BEACH SHACKS RULE

Visit the beach shacks. We tried several , the most popular off of CSM road on the Baga/Calnagute border were the BIG BANANA, BOSCOS, and SPLIFFS.

Here is a picture from the smaller INSPIRATIONS shack next door to BOSCOS.
This is cheaper , friendlier, and less crowded than the others. You can see how the sunbeds are less crowded than the BOSCOS next door, although they have better towels.

Favorite Dish: Everything, Fried Rice, Sizzlers, Chips, Fresh Fish.

Casa Portugese is at the bottom end of Baga road (all the taxis and tuck tuck drivers know it) it is an authentic Goan/Portugese restaurant with good wine and wonderfull food. It doesn`t open during the day so if you want to book a table (you have to if you want a Chateaux Briand)you will have to call in the evening. All the waiters are in the old style Portugese costume and you can either sit inside or in the gardens. A nice experience but a touch more expensive than the others.

Alma`s is a small place with just 8 tables and a very warm welcome. It is a family run buisness and Alma`s cooking is superb. When you go there and get to know them you are made to feel like one of the family and again it is another place where they will do anything they can to make your stay a pleasant one.

Seagull Restaurant

The Seagull is owned by three local brothers and is one of our favourites for good food and a good night out. If you can`t find what you want on the menue then just ask and they will make it for you. The restaurant is spotlessly clean and my wife tells me that they have got the cleanest toilets in Goa. All in all it is afriendly, very clean, well run restaurant with good food and they will go out of their way to please the customers.

Beach Cabana's: Hot Summer Days..Chilled Beers.. AAhh!!

goa beach cabana

They tend to have simple dishes, like Sandwiches or other fast food concoctions. But what they're really good for is Chilled Beer, and those hot goan beaches, one could definately do with a chilled beverage.
The Best part is you don't need to sit in the cabana to enjoy the beer, they'll bring it to you on the beach.

Favorite Dish: Kingfisher is a good local brand. San Miguel of Spain is the best imported Label. Stick to the Lager's they are light and Ideal for the climate.

chicken cafreal

This is a Local's haunt mainly. Though I managed to find out about it, so i guess word is spreading. Goan Cuisine is famous for it's Succulent rendition of The Chicken Cafreal, and this is the place to have it. There is no Beef, Pork, Lamb on the menu only Fish and Chicken. This is a 38 year old eatery and the Chef (Florence D'Costa) is still supervising the menu.

Favorite Dish: Chicken Cafreal

crab

Located right on the beach this is one of Goa's most popular eateries. It has become fairly touristy over the past years, but the food has remained true to it's "home-style" roots. Th curries are flavorful, succulent and spicy. The seafood is fresh and tender. The service can be slow at times but the view more than makes up for the delay.

Favorite Dish: Spicy Goan Crab Curry.

Anjuna shacks

There are many such shacks lining the beach front, selling soft drinks and tea. U wont get a wholesome meal here, but whatever it is is enuf for a lazy day on the beach. You can also get a made to order meal by booking in advance for a particular day.

We were spending most of our time on this beach in Anjuna, so we made sure we had a mouthful to eat when we come out of water.

Indian Impact at Baga ****: Elaborate local meals at Baga

Evening version; maybe difficult to recognize.

Highly recommendable and very good ratio of price/quality. Oasis in the food restaurant scene of Baga. Multilingual menu selections outside the place seldom fulfill its promises but Indian Impact was a elaborate entirety.

Favorite Dish: Example menu for two: Vegs stuffed squids (95 rps) were superb. Mixed veg portion, tandoori chicken and garlic naans. With soda, water and coffee and two marvellous handmade ice cream, the bill was little over 600 rupias (March 2003).
