SEAFOOD: Food at Ingo's Flea Market

With almost everything under the sun on sale and the excitement of frenetic bargaining, one can really work up an appetite. So if you're feeling hungry let the traveller in you explore the myriad options at Ingo’s.

On offer is a wide range of international cuisine from Greek, British and authentic Italian pasta and pizzas. Try out diff cuisines or savour the best Japanese Sushi in India. A must try is the delectable varieties of kebabs, tandoori chicken and the good old Goan cuisine.

The Banyan Tree, Palolem, Ourem: Be careful at what you eat Palolem Beach

Take care for your health!

Here is what we found out:

- STYLES: Indian, Tandoori, Italian (no Pizza), Thai – Vegetarian & non vegetarian
- MANAGED BY: local people.
- WATER USED: Tab
- PRICES: definately cheap
- FISH: Ask the waiter to show you the fish before cooking - may be suddenly all fish is sold out...?!
- NOTE: Ask if you can have a look in the kitchen...
- GARBAGE: even garbage is collected from the main street, they put all rubbish at night time behind COZY NOOK at the riverside. better avoid that area.

Favorite Dish: Thai & Italian food is excellent and tasty.

If you love good seafood go to one of those restaurants who are showing the catch of the day in chilled showcases - that seafood is definately fresh!

GENERALY NOTES:
-Cheap food is only possible when low quality is offered.
-Ask the owner if you can have a look at the kitchen. If he has nothing to hide he will be happy to show you.
-If you eat fish always ask the waiter to show you the fish. If the eyes are big and round you know that the fish is fresh. If they find excuses why the fish is not available – it’s definitely not fresh but may be frozen.
-Have a look at the owner. Several people are only interested in making money and don’t care about your health.
-If you get sick – change the restaurant!

Shacks at Calangute and Baga Beach: Don't Miss the Beach Shacks

Having Lunch at Baga Beach

Located on Calangute and Baga Beach stretch the shacks are amazing for local goan food. But for the not so experimental you geteverything from Indian, Continental, Chinese to local Goan cusine. So a visit to these shacks is a must and prices are very reasonable.

A tip : To know which shack serves the best food, just look around and see which shack has the most tables occupied. That one serves the best food obviously.

Very good ambiance. Service is fast and polite. And the food price is relatively cheap. There are lots of variety of dish you can choose from, italian, chinese, japanese. I found it so relaxing while eating in the beachside. I go bananas because the lobster is cheap compared here in Dubai.

Brittos - while other shacks have seasonal flow of tourists...Brittos has flow of people all year. great palce to see the sea and the tourists do silly things in the sea

Enjoy a beer and order the Sea food platter...it would cost you 5 times anywhere else and not even half as fresh

Favorite Dish: i had the seas food platter. the crab and mussels were great, the calamari was too heavy for my taste, the prawns were great............Start with the platter and then see what tastes best and order that..everything tastes nice with a beer!

Nothing can distract me now... (Goa)

Usually I'm a great fan of venturing away from the relative safety of one's hotel and finding culinary delights outside in the "real world". But on our 4th evening in Goa we were simply too tired & lazy to go out, and decided to try the hotel's very own seafood restaurant.

As the Golden Eye Hotel is one of the very few that is located right on the beach, you get that wonderous authentic holiday-experience of eating great seafood in the night's ocean breeze...

The menu is quite extensive with either special a-la-carte options or you can choose your fish by weight and then define the cooking style.

The interiors/exteriors are nice and modern, clean, waiters are friendly with good knowledge of English and are also open to making good suggestions from their menu.

Favorite Dish: My friend ordered some grilled Tikka Paneer as a starter, followed by Naan bread and a delightful Prawn curry in red sauce.

I asked the waiter about an authentic, traditional, local curry for Goa and with a big grin on his face he proudly proclaimed "Fish Caldeen". Caldeen curry sauce is made with mostly coconut & green chillies and is a Goan speciality.
I chose to have mussels with the caldeen sauce and it was absolutely devine! I highly recommend you try it!
We also ordered a Lobster Thermidor (charged by weight) with vegetables and it cost a laughable 790 Rupees! (approx. 17 US $)

I would definitely eat here again and I suggest you do... just don't tell everyone about this place, ok? ;-)

(P.S.: Please share some of your seafood with the lovely hotel felines.
Also, please don't order baby shark. By catching juvenile fish the species has the hard task of trying to not become extinct! Thank you.)

Set amoung the palm groves, this shacky like restaurant is fast growing in popularity for good food. They serve excellent menu from Goan to continental to Indian and tandoori at a very reasonable price. The place is well knon amoung the locals for fresh seafood. A three course meal cost us ( 2 person)) about Rs.400/- which is very economical and the food, was excellent. The tandoori was one of the best we had tasted in Goa.
The owner, Willy, is very polite and takes good care of you.
A must visit place and you will not regrett once.

Favorite Dish: My favourite dish was Tandoori chicken and calamari in butter garlic. They also have a lot of veg item which we never tried but a lot of vege tourist do visit them.

This beautiful restaurant , close to the beach, off the Baga Road has the best food around. As well as local Goan specialities, try the lobster, red snapper, pomfret or tiger prawns. The owner, ex footballer, Vasu is charming and extremely well infomed. Sit on the upper deck for good views. Traditional Goan dancing and Rajasthani dancing on some nights.

Wonderful relaxed place to eat.

Favorite Dish: Every meal we had was delicious.

Owned by a guy called Robin Hood, or Robin red breast or sometimes Robin B*stard!!! (his words not mine).

The crab in the photo weighed in at 1.5 kgs and cost 800 rps (about £9.20) and came with fries, salad and rice.

Lyon's Den: Quiet but trendy and close to the action!
Jacktheladgoa profile photo

3 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Jacktheladgoa 1 reviews

We visited this small and cosey place last week. It was a delight as nothing quite like this exists in Goa. They have the in- and out doors and there is a nice relaxed ambience without the pollution and noise of the main road.

It was difficult to find as the road leading to the Lyon's Den is not so easy to access from the main road near the shut down Petrol Pump. Although this may be the case, it was a pleasant surprize when we landed there. They have a tandoor and the cooking can be done inside or out the food was excellent.

The interior is modern and fresh. The staff are easy going and warm and the owner Patrick and his wife Sarika are friendly and outwardly considerate to their customers. We experimented with their special cocktails and could not remember how to get out of the Den...

Anyway, we have been back since and intend to go again during our stay in Goa.

Favorite Dish: Local catch of the day and the fenny cocktail with the uptown girl.
