If you've got a taste for Goan cuisine...why not try it yourself when you get home...
Goan Prawn Curry
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Serves 4
Ingredients
50ml vegetable oil
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 tbsp chopped fresh ginger
2 green chillies, finely chopped
Pinch of ground turmeric
1 tsp ground coriander
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp chilli powder
60ml coconut cream
2 tbsp fresh, sieved tamarind
160ml coconut milk
600g large, raw tiger prawn tails
Salt
Instructions
Heat the oil in a thick-bottomed pan over a medium heat. Add the sliced onion, and fry for 10 minutes until soft. Add the ginger and green chilli and fry for 1 minute. Add the turmeric, coriander, cumin and chilli powder. Mix well. Add the coconut cream and cook until the oil separates out from the mix.
Add the tamarind and coconut milk and bring the sauce to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer gently for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, shell the prawns (leaving their tails on, if you like) and remove the dark digestive cords. Wash the prawns in cold water and drain them thoroughly.
Drop the prawns into the sauce, add salt to taste and gently simmer until the prawns are cooked - about 5 minutes. The sauce should be of pouring consistency. Garnish, if you like, with shredded spring onion, and serve with rice.
Enjoy!

The restaurant of Golden Eye resort, Calangute, Goa is one of the bestseafood restaurants in North Goa.
The ambience is great and they always get repeated guests. The owner Mr. Mathais is a very friendly man and if you get a chance, have a chat with him. Specially if you are looking for some tips about something in Goa.
They have accommodation also. 22 well appointed rooms and it is family run resort.

The Rovers Return(badly named) is a beach shack but the food compares with a quality reataurant. Joseph the cook can cook local or european to a high standard. All food is freshly cooked and delicious and although the surroundings are simple the food makes up for it.
We have tried many reastaurants but still return to the rovers (I wish he would change the name)
Favorite Dish: His tiger prawns ,sea food and fresh fish are sensational and a banana pancake to finish if you have room..

Food - a spicy, heady concoction of Goan cuisine, complemented by some delicious Mediterranean fare. Of course, it's mandatory to wash down whatever you're having with a large Heineken. Cheers!
Ambience - once the sun sets, the whole place is bathed in a gorgeous red glow, thanks to the soft, subtle lanterns. Quite irresistible, really :)
Surroundings - I challenge you to find a better setting for a restaurant, anywhere in the world! You've got the blue ocean ahead of you, golden sands beneath your feet, and the whole world in the blink of an eye.
Favorite Dish: Prawn Curry a la Goa - make sure you ask the chef to whip it up extra spicy for you. Marinated in liquor of some kind (wine or rum, I'm guessing), the prawns are delightful with either rice or olive bread. Bon Appetit.

the morisco situated on the poolside of fort aguada beach resort is a nice place to visit in the evenings.
the ambience is good you can smell the sea from here and hear the waves.a mild breeze blows in the evenings soothing you gently.live music in form of ballads or requests is playing.
when you enter morisco you get very comfortable by its minimalistic decor.there is a table where the days fresh catch which includes a host of crustaceans including lobsters and prawns is displayed, see the accompanying pic.
Favorite Dish: my favorites and a must for the beginner are lobster periperi. periperi is a small fiery red pepper.however the preparation itself is very beautifully done and enough to satisfy two people.a lobster here costs 750-1000 indian rupees. other specialities here are tiger prawns and crabs.local goan favorites like pomfret(called paplet locally).

Coming upon UTOPIA was the most incredible thing, we were walking on the Calangute Beach enjoying the sunset when suddenly it appeared. Utopia is more than a restaurant it is an experience by itself. It is a happening place which just happens to have probably the best food in Goa from homemade pizzas to pasta, tandoori and about the best homemade ice cream I have ever eaten. The ambiance is chilled out but sophisticated. After the first visit we returned every day for the next month. Each day was an experience with new surprises; live jazz concerts and music, the best foreign D.J.'s in town (Ma Faiza does all the background music especially for utopia) and they tell me next year will be even more together with film shows, concerts, fashion shows. Definitely the place to be seen in Goa.
Favorite Dish: 1.) Pizzas like you only get in Italy
2.) incredible Pasta - the seafood pasta has more seafood in it than you get in most restaurants for a main dish.
3.) Fresh Ice cream
Eating in Utopia is like eating home cooked real food, everything is prepared at the moment.

Britto's is among the popular restaurants/shacks/beach bars, and specialises in sea-food.
Favorite Dish: The sea food-platter was a hit with most people around... though for me, a not-so-enthusiastic person with sea food, i stuck to chicken:P
The food took its own time in showing up though. The tourist season and the numbers took its toll on the service...
