SEAFOOD: DOMNICK'S - A MUST

It may not be there now, the restaurants are dismantled at the end of April and re-erected in October/November. Dom's was there in 97 and 99 and he had no intention of changing. He was spending the other half of the year in Manali - working in the ski resort, but he is a Goa boy through and through.

Food is great, and you can spend all day in his place as long as you order drinks and food from time to time.

Favorite Dish: Biriani - you will not find better.

Souza Lobo ***: A classic seafood restaurant at Calangute

Recommendable to visit, specially after seeing first the sunset from the beach. Good ratio of price/quality. Located just to the left from main beach entrance of Calangute. The lobsters of Souza Lobo are a classic in Goan restaurant listings. We ate garlic butter lobster, lobster masala and chili pwawns, which were delicious. Both lobsters (590 rp each) were well-prepared and tasty, but maybe they had waited us a little too long before or after the visit on the grill or the staff has bad day. Anyway, both the lobster sauces were täyteläisiä and detailed. I have eaten better lobsters but also worse lobsters more often than in Souza Lobo. Plus for the naans.

Favorite Dish: Menu of Souza Lobo is mid-ranged priced: main courses varies from 70 to 110 rps (March 2003).

a live lobster

If you find fishermen at the Goa Beaches, ask them for lobsters. Sometimes they catch a couple and can prepare them to you in the grill for some 5 or 6 bucks. They are normally cheaper than in restaurants, though there are quite cheap too!

This is the life.

We were sat at a restaurant on the beach one day having a cold beer and we saw some fishermen coming up from the beach with the days catch and we asked to see what they had which was lobsters and we asked if we could buy a large one off them and 20 minute's later we were eating it with a thermador sauce with fresh vegtables which was cooked at the restaurant for $5.

Beach Restaurant

The shacks on the beach open early in the morning until quite late at night serving food and drinks. The norm is if there are people eating and drinking at them then they will stay open. Try the seafood as it is more than likely been caught that day and the prices are so cheap it's unreal.

Lobster Pot is a restaurant in the main road of Candolim, and is a choice if you don't want to walk down the Beach Road. They serve all kinds of food.
