This was one of the main reasons I took my last trip through Goa. Yups, a little crazy, but what the heck, if it ain't fun ... it ain't living!

So I woke up one morning, rode my bike to Fort Aguada beach, got myself hitched to a parachute like canopy (known as a Parasail) attached to a long towrope, and then got pulled along by a speeding boat. The speed of the boat increases, the parasail rises and you're pulled up into the air. What a rush!

A soaring birds eye view of what land looks like from up there with the bright as a rainbow colored parachute bellowing above you. Amazing!

Theres a tiny canopy seat so that you're comfortable while you're up there. There's no need to hold onto the ropes, since you're harnessed pretty secure. You do get some ground instructions before take off on how to swerve when you get to the turning point some distance from the seashore (for when they need to bring you back). Tugging on one side gets you to change direction so you're back again facing the shore.

If you're slightly on the chubby side, be prepared to waddle like a duck in the water before the parachute fills with enough air to take you up .. :0) .. And be prepared for the trip down, the boat driver is mostly very experienced and you achieve a soft touchdown, with numerous hands helping with the straining parachute.

Won't forget that trip in a while now.

The price for a ride is approximately US$ 16 for a 10 minute ride. There are options to have two people tandem ride on the parasail for the same price, but this is subject to weight and the wind factor. You don't need to bring any equipment with you, the guys have all the stuff that is required. I suggest you wear shoes though rather than sandles for keeping your toes protected when you land.

If you would like you could pay approx US$ 40 and go for a longer ride into the high seas where halfway out the crew let the engines of the boat idle for a while, till you go upto waist deep into the water and then they get you to soar again by pepping up the engines. Not a bad ride since you have a lifejacket so you're safe along the way.

Give it a try ... live life on the wild side!

Trivia~ Parasailing begun in the 60's when Piere Lamoigne attached an already existing parachute to a car. That method was called parascending.

    Swimming at Dudhsagar Falls

If you go to Dudhsagar falls in the summer, you will be aching to get in the water. It is quite cool and very refreshing. Something to watch out for is that the water from the falls is quite powerful and the rocks are very slippery. The water in the "swimming pool" is not very clear so be careful if you are going to dive. Also there will be many others around who are wanting to swim, take pictures and lay out. Enjoy!

You will want to bring a bathing suit with you or a quick dry material pair of shorts. I don't know if they would object to nudity but they are quite modest there in India and at the time I went there were also many families around. I did not have a suit with me but I got by in my all black pair of underwear, which don't look any different than a Euro-style swim suit. Either way it was fun!

I very good 9 hole golf course is available at the leela beach hotel, its not very long in length, but some tricky little holes with lots of bunkers, as you would expect, and with small Greens its good, I thought it was best late afternoon or early morning

Lots of beaches now have the usual range of watersports...theres two or three places on the Baga/Siquerim stretch of beach. Have fun but do be careful of others whilst on the water as the jetski's can be dangerous.

There is rental facility for water ski and boats in Vasco de Gama. It's different from laying on the beach and particularly fun when there are high waves.

  • As with most tourist resorts there are plenty of beach activies to get involved in - Jet Skiing (my favourite), paragliding. The most popular place to go with Indian tourists seemed to be on Sinquerim beach in front of Fort Aguada, which always seemed busy.

    All provided.
