If you want to get to Colva Beach, you can catch a bus from Margao, it leaves from the KTC busstand, which is 3 km north of Margoa. The bus stops about 1 km from the beach, you can walk the rest or catch a ride with a taxi. From Margao you can take buses to places like Vasco di Gama and Old Goa.
There are trains to Margao, but I remember it was a bit complicated, the trainsstation is outside the citycenter somewhere and I am not sure what the name was.
Trains,Buses and Flights are available to get to Goa(located on the West Coast of India) Book ahead of time especially during the high season!
Walking is very enjoyable, and so is renting a scooter/bike!

It’s easy to rent a motorcycle, scooter or car in Goa. There are a lot of places places where you can hire them. But remember that traffic is crazy in India.
If you have no experience of riding on an elephant, Goa is one place where you can try it for the first time.
If you're going a short distance take a tuk tuk for the experience. It can be a bumpy ride though but great fun!
From Pune, we left at 9pm by bus and we reached Goa at 7am. In roaming around, I suggest for a motorbike which the hotel can arrange it for a good price.
You can easily get bikes on hire. Jus show your driving licence and get going. The hire period would be anywhere from 1 day to a month.
I’m sure it’s changed a lot since this visit ten years ago, but its still a good distance from the main resorts in Goa
