Don't forget to visit the Shankaracharya samadhi (his final resting place) behind the temple. It's strange how thousands flock to the temple but nobody cares to walk some meters ahead to the little shrine built for the man who setup the temple they're visiting and the other 3 coveted dhams of Hinduism.
Also take an easy walk to the Bhairav temple nearby. They say he is the guardian of the main temple in winter when the whole village-town is shut down.
Try your best to also trek to the source of the river Mandakini 4km away or Vasuki Tal 7km away.
