This church is also known as the "Valiapally", meaning the big church, and is located beside St Mary's Orthodox Church. It was constructed in 1550 by the successors of Syrian Knanaya Christians who came to India in 345 AD. The land on which the church stands today was donated by a Hindu chieftain. Inside the church, which was closed when I visited, are two granite Persian crosses, each sculpted out of a single piece of stone and bearing an inscription in the Pahlavi language (the official language of Sassanian dynasty of Persia). The altar and the ceiling are adorned with paintings from the Bible. The main feast of the church is held on 24th April and is known as St George's Feast.

This church is also known as the "Cheriapally", meaning small church and was built in 1579. The church was built after the congregation split on ethnic lines, after building the St Mary's Knanaya Church or "Valiapally" (big church) which is located next to this church. This church features a lovely 19th century wooden porch but it's the interior that is of particular interest as the walls around the altar are painted with some amazing scenes. The main eastern wall is painted with various scenes with the Virgin Mary as its centrepiece. The side walls have paintings depicting various scenes of the Passion of the Christ, starting with the Last Supper, Gadzamane, Arrest and Judgement, and the Crucifixion. These wonderful paintings were done using vegetable dyes and date back to when the church was first built.
