On the road between Madikeri and Hassan is the Bylakuppe Tibetan Monastery and settlement. This is the largest Tibetan settlement in South India with nearly 40,000 Tibetans living here. The Monastery temple is elaborate with three large statues of Buddhist saints overlaid in gold.
