The head of the Cauvery river is located about 45 km from Madikeri, accessible by bus or jeep. The Cauvery river is revered by Hindus, and one local I asked ranked the river first before Siva in his worship.
The temple complex is under construction now (2006), growing around the small shrine housing the actual source (you can’t touch the water) and a larger pool where people come to wash away their sins. A little higher, there are temples to Siva and Ganesh. None of it is architecturally significant, and in fact the plans for the new construction don’t even look that nice.
After 300 steps to the top of the hill, you get a spectacular 360-degree view of just about all of Coorg. The top is covered with small, sharp rocks, and since you can’t wear shoes inside the temple, it can be kind of painful. The view is worth it, though.

This small, well-tended park overlooks a grand vista of the Coorg hills, particularly beautiful at sunrise and sunset. The grounds are full of flowers, paths leading to the raja’s seat itself, a simple raised pavilion set towards the overlook and positioned to offer clear views of sunrise and sunset. You can’t go into the pavilion, but there are plenty of benches from which you see the same views.
This is a major tourist attraction in town, and busloads keep it full most of the day, every day. You can access another much less-visited ridge, a little lower and extending a short ways into the valley below, via rough paths below the front of the gardens.

If you truly want to spend time feeling one with nature head out on non-trodden paths early in the morn before human life starts for some sights that cannot be forgotten!

When it rains in Coorg it pours! But then when it lets up you are sure to catch a rainbow! We saw one that looked more like a Protractor from a Geometry Box :)) Check the fotos!

Plan a day trip to this wildlife sanctuary if you want to see hordes of deer, some elephants, Malabar Squirrels and birds! However this is nothig compared to Bandipur or Masinagudi!
