the ghats were an integral part of rural lifestyle. a flight of broad stone steps leading to the river is knawn as a ghat.bathing washing clothes and carrying water for household purpose and religious rituals were a part of life of ancient india.it continues to be the same to date albeit with some modifications.
early mornings in summer and late mornings in winter are the best times to view the ghats.

maheshwar is the ancent city of mahishmati which finds a mention in great epics like ramayan and mahabharat.an ancient city it has its share of legends.
the baneshwar temple located in an island in river narmada is one such place.it is a place supposed to connect the centre of the earth to the north pole.
demon king of lanka ravana is supposed to have mediatated and penance here and so it is told that on particular auspicious day if you travel to the centre of narmada and worship at baneshwar your wish will come true.
there is also a legend of an arrow piercing the spot and that is why it is known as baneshwar.Related to:

sahastradhara means a 100 streams.the narmada river after pasing maheshwar breaks into a turbulent flow due to natural rocks obstructing it.legend has it that a demon once tried to capture the river by blocking its path but the river goddess narmada broke through the barrier by breaking up into small streams and continuing her onward journey towards the arabian sea.
the narmada river cruise takes you to the spot where the sahastradhara falls are actually they are more of rapids rather than a waterfall.Related to:
