The blue waves at night by SirRichard In Palolem Beach, south of Goa, you can see a marvellous phenomenon at night. If you stare at the waves in the beach, you can see that they shine in blue-greenish colors. This is due to some microscopic tiny organism which have fluorescence and make the waters shine. If you swimm at night there you will see your body all covered with tiny points of light. An unforgettable mystic experience!!! Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Ghats from the boat by SirRichard Well, not in fact a nightlife, but I place it here as you have to get up in the middle of the night in order to take a boat down the river Ganges and see the city wake up in the river banks from the boat. The pilgrims start their day at the river banks steps, washing, praying and preparing tea with the watrs of the Holy River. Leave a Comment Theme: People Watching

Ubiquitous Movie Advertisements - Mumbai. by Hmmmm At night Indians watch Movies. And its fun to join 'em. There is nothing like sitting down watching one or two movies, full of gawdy Jewellery, skiiny men acting tough, Buxom women who cry, smile and sing in one scene, followed by a guy who is angry, sorry singing and then getting shot . The movies are always in Hindi, or Maharastran or anyother dialect. But ofthen bits are in English. But dialogue understanding isn't the point. Bollywood movies are fun, fun, fun. And the songs are catchy. I like them. Oh a bit of trivia before I sign off. Did you know Bollywood iin Mumbai is the largest film industry in the world. With 900 hundred new films per year.
Where cool loose Indian Cotton clothing. Because its cool, non sticky and it looks great. (r^^)r Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: EVERYWHEREDirections: Just ask the Rickshaw Wallah. Marine Drive at Night, Mumbai by Canadienne Mumbai has plenty of great spots for late-night meals, drinks and dancing. If you're looking for a recommendation of which bar to hit, check in with VT member Amitu for some great advice. Otherwise, for some less expensive evening entertainment, try Marine Drive at night. A viewing during the day is also recommended, but nighttime reveals the reason for the nickname "The Queen's Necklace," as the stretch glitters with streetlights. A slow drive along here is beautiful. . .a walk as well, but you'll have some hassle (touts, beggars, etc.) to deal with. In the distance, you can spot Malabar Hill, home to some of the world's most expensive real estate. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Umaid Bhavan Palace, Jodhpur by Canadienne Although we couldn't afford to stay at five-star hotels, treating ourselves to a drink or meal at the same places was within our range. This type of evening would typically be out of our budgets at home, so we made the most of it. Every few days, we would splurge on a special evening at a fancy hotel, being sure to take our time to enjoy and explore the gardens, patios and public spaces. There are some exquisite hotels in India and this is one way to get a peek inside, as well as to relax and treat yourself to something special.
Fancy clothing isn't required, but even if you're backpacking, there's no excuse to not be clean and tidy. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and Drinking

Western Temples at Night, Khajuraho by Canadienne As cheesy as the idea may sound (one of my friends took some convincing before she agreed to go), the son-et-lumiere show at the Western Temples in Khajuraho is incredibly atmospheric and evocative. As an introduction to the group (try to time it before you visit), it whets the appetite to see the temples during daylight. . .and gives some history and legend surrounding their creation and discovery. Fold-out chairs are placed on the lawn inside the main complex and the show lasts an hour. When it finishes, check out the amazing display of stars overhead as well.
It's nighttime and dark out, so wear what you like. If it's winter, bring a shawl to keep you warm. . .and don't foget mosquito repellent. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Metallic hangover producing Kingfisher beer. by Hmmmm I thought I'd throw in a few ratings of Kingfisher beer: Jason ( East Boston, Massachusetts ) overall: 3.3 Pale yellowish golden clear brew with a decent white lace.Light metallic aroma, with a clean hop and grain in the back. Light to moderate body with a lower than normal carbonation for a lager. Oily hop flavour hits first then some grainy malt, grassy in a way. A mediocre brew, I would not turn it down if someone offered it to me. Todd ( Cambridge, Massachusetts ) overall: 3.15 "Most thrilling chilled!", the label shouts. Appearance: Light golden with tiny bubbles, yielding a thin fizzy head. Smell: Semi-sweet with a distinct yeast aroma. Taste: The malt gives this a slight grainy taste which is followed by a refreshingly high lemon flavour and sour bitterness. Wonderful use of hops in this brew. Notes: There was a card on the table that went into some interesting detail of this brew. I wrote it down, and it goes as follows: "A time when a strong, smooth beer was needed to quench the thirst and beat the heat in Hindustan, India [snip] ... high gravity lager is kept in copper urns for over 2 months. Copper stimulates the yeast and imparts its flavour in the beer." Aaron [ME] ( New Zealand ) Overall: 2.2 Appearance: Light golden often flat, but cold. Flavour: Light lemony flavour, then linda nutty, followed by a metallic aftertaste that had to be preservative. In a nutshell: A TERRIBLE beer. F*^ng awful. But often it is all there is in India. A beer is like pizza, there is no such thing as bad pizza. Nah. This beer is bad. PS: Gives the worst hangover worse than 4 bottles of Champagne.
Wear cotton. because you are in India, which is stinking hot. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingAddress: Anywhere.Directions: Little dodgy bottleshops, restaurants, or small street stalls that pack it like concealed weapons. The enjoyment of this 'cloak and dagger' beer commerce makes the bad taste of Kingfisher beer handleableWebsite: http://www.kingfisherworld.com/

Dasaswamedh Ghat. Varanasi. Pic: Aaron Irving by Hmmmm The Dormitory of Shanti Guest house is open to the air. Punters and sheltered from the rain by a corrugated Iron Roof and from the Ferocious Monkeys by prison like bars as walls. So the senses are bombarded quite incredibly. Sleep is hard to get. Marnikarnika Ghat is the burning Ghat. the most auspicious place to be cremated in all of India. So 24 hours a day people are bringing bodies to be cremeted. Services, chants, and songs are sang all through the night, Right below Shanti Guesthouse. Meanwhile down the way in Dasaswamedh Ghat Pujas are sung through the night, wedding feasts happen daily (These are a very noisy affair). Lucky Shanti Guesthouse sells beer. Have a few of those and sleep comes easier. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

The Tavern Pub, the Fariyas Hotel, Mumbai by Paul2001 India is not a country full of great bars however there are a few in Bombay. I ate one night in the Colaba district and found this bar nearby as recommended in my guidebook. It was actually a pretty good bar with lots of friendly locals, loud and good music and videos. It was one of the few bars in all of India where I saw Indian women drinking beer. Therefore Western women should not feel uncomfortable here if they are looking for a night out.

The Bar Saaki by Paul2001 The bar at the Hotel Kalinga , the Bar Saaki was a great place to sip a Kingfisher beer after you travels. The bar was a bit dark but was not seedy as some Indian bars can be. Because of its location just 100m from the train station, lots of travelers come here to have a beer before they set off on late night trains. The bar is just inside to the right as you enter the hotel.
