Toilet paper and the other

by oceania26

dress conservateily in loose cotton clothing especially if going into villages and small towns. big cities anything goes but if you're expsoing too much skin you're only asking for trouble. do not show stomach or legs in particular. dont' wear tight or fitting clothing accentuating your figure you'll have a hard enough time fending off guys when you're fully clothed. Toilet paper and tissue is not very common there. Strongly recommend you carry a roll when travelling. You can buy it there...usually coloured unfortunately.Take mosquito repellent, malaria tablets, sunscreen, it's available there but not any cheaper and don't know about the quality though. don't flaunt valuables, you're bound to hassled, ripped-off, picket pocketed, etc. take handwipes, hankerchef....trust me it'll come in handy. i never opened anything w/ my bare hands, always used a scarf or hankie.

TOILETRIES, MALARIALS, PHOTOGRAPHY, ETC ETC

For BACKPACKS...Long and narrow is best. Overhead racks on buses rarely give you more than 25 cm of space between the rack and the roof. If your bag is too big, you will have to store it forward near the driver or else carry it on your lap. Unlike many other countries, luggage is rarely placed on the roof of the bus. SHOWER CLOTH: Japanese and Korean grocery stores sell a Japanese made wash cloth (SALUX) about 1 meter long by 30 cm wide made out of a nylon and polyester mesh that cleans more thoroughly than a loofa, gets a good lather out of soap in the hardest water, and dries really really fast. They weigh THREE GRAMS and compress super itty-bitty. They come in a variety of colors and are very durable. Search the Internet for 'salux' See a photo in General Tips MALARIA I strongly recommend Royal Perth Hospital for latest information in English, French and Spanish. You can also visit...

Clothes for the children

by Jontxu

Usually people go to India thinking about the shopping possibilities and tend to travel with a light luggage, what we did is to ask some friends and colleagues if they had children clothes to bring there. We end up travelling with a few things for ourselves, but we packed our luggage with lots of things we brought to an orphanage as soon as we arrived in Delhi. You won´t have trouble finding one because unfortunately India is full of them.I don´t think this is a big effort however it´s an easy way to help all this people who do not have too much help, I am sure you´ll feel a little bit better after that.

Bring your own Toilet Paper!

by TheGypsy3

You can find toilet paper in India, its just always the hard, scratchy, and/or super thin stuff. And its not standard issue in public bathrooms, so I'd recommend carrying some with you at all times, just in case.

Plastic Bucket

by nightcowboy

When backpacking in India or traveling from hotel to hotel, one of the most use full items you can have is a plastic bucket , We found it the most useful item we bought, did our small washing in , and when you pack soft or item's that my brake in your bags put them inside the bucket, and more uses etc etc think about it, cost twenty Rupees.

Pcking for Backpackers

by Angel0305

Take the smallest bag you can find. I took a 25 litre back pack and a small bag which actually managed to fit loads in - it was very deceptive. That was it - and that lasted me for 4 months travelling from India (where it was very hot) through to NewZealand (where it was winter) I only took 4 T-Shirts, 2 pairs of shorts, 1 pair of trousers, 1 jumper (thin fleece top) and 1 polypropylene long sleeved top. I didn't take any shoes apart from the pair of light weight walking shoes I was wearing. Whilst in Goa, India, I picked up a pair of flip flops for the beach for about 50p - apparently I was ripped off!!! If you are prone to insect bites, a month before you go take Vitamin B1 tablets and take one a day for your entire trip. I didn't, and was bitten a lot. Although these don't completely stop the bites it does repel anything that comes near you and will try everyone else around you...

Keep your Rucksack Safe !!

by into-thin-air

If you are travelling Anywhere and using a Rucksack / Backpack as your luggage then I would Strongly recommend that you use some form of Rucksack / Backpack Pro-tector !!This tip is from my own personal experience, as I have had Big Problems having my Rucksack damaged or even destroyed by airlines, particularly on Airport Carousels,What can happen is that one of the straps can drop in-between the lats on the moving Carousel and then as your Rucksack goes around a corner, the strap gets ripped off, I lost the entire back and carrying system from one of my rucksacks !!I have tried many of the Rucksack / Backpack Protectors that are available on the market and was disappointed with how they performed, So after having many problems with these decided to design and manufacture my own. Full details of how this came about are written up on my Nepal page. So, Obviously my own recommendation would...

Baby towels (wet towels)

by Jontxu

You should bring some baby towels, pretty useful, specially if you enter in a mosque where you need to take your shoes off. In India the dust is everywhere and bringing a pack of towels will definetely help you to clean your hands, face... It could sound a little ridiculous but works!!
