If you want to laze around like a snail then you will find many foreigners who are in the same mood over there.
Take a tour to Bhubaneswar, Raghurajpur (to see local painters), Cuttack(for filigree work in silver), Dhaulagiri, Konark, for nearby tours.
There are overnite tours to wildlife.

No night life at all if you are looking for discotheques and pubs. But yes till midnight you can see families sitting on the beach and enjoying tranquility of the sea. Quite safe at night.

Dress Code: Casuals are OK. Winters are chilly so carry some woolens.

Going to Puri by air is a sheer waste of money. Coz not many regular flights are connectede to Bhubaneswar, plus the air fares are quite exorbitant. Only if you are boarding from Kolkota, Delhi or Bangalore, it saves time otherwise it is wastage of money and also wastage of time.

More than 10, 000 for Delhi -Bhubaneswar sounds pretty ridiculous!

Hand woven patola delights. Great stuff as far as saris, salwal suits are concerned. Local craftwork is also quite a pleasure to buy.

What to buy: Lamp shades and wall hangings from Pipli. Local paintings from Raghurajpur. But BARGAIN!!!!

What to pay: Depends on your power of bargaining

It's better to take a guide from the Hotel where you are putting up. Same goes true for taxis. If not chances are you'll end up paying more than your fair share. Especially autowallas, leaches I must tell you. I've had very harrowing experience.

Unique Suggestions: There is a lot of bargaining. This is one area where I am never certain if I got the deal right. That's the flip side of bargaining.

  • Enjoy Idyllic beauty

My visit to Hirapur has been the most memorable so far. It is so very much near the city yet so far away from today's world. You feel as if you've gone back into time or you are watching a Mani Ratnam film. But yes all beauty during the day, nights here are quite scary. Witness raw natural beauty!!
