Sadar Bazaar: All sorts!

The Sadar Bazaar runs along the northern side of the lake. It offers a wide range of products including Rajasthani costumes, jewellery, embroidered fabrics, decorative pieces and groovy accessories. It's a narrow street and is packed with little shops and stalls which are well worth a stroll around.

Dilip in his temporary shop for the festival

This store is owned by Dilip who is vt member Treeoflife.

Firstly, pay him a visit because he is a good man and makes a good cup of tea!

Secondly, the quality of the silkwork he produces and sells is fantastic. His bags and embroideries are stunning and they are all made using either his contempory designs or lovely traditional styles.

Go and visit him and please say hello from Peter!

What to buy: Anything you buy from this shop will be lovely. My wife Ruth loves the bag that she has from Dilip.

What to pay: I'm sure some things will be more expensive than others, but we bought a lovely extremely intricate bag for 500 rupees. Worth every penny for the work that has obviously gone into it.

Bhagwati Bike Rental Pushkar: Avoid Bhagwati bike rental in Pushkar
Indiatravels profile photo

2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Indiatravels 1 reviews

Bhagwati bike rental is located near the sikh temple, in Pushkar, and should be absolutely avoided, as the bikes are in very bad shape (dangerous, on tyres, brakes, engines), and the owner also dangerous as phisically threatening, potentially violent and in strict friendship with the local police.
In my bike rental experience (which was aslso shared by 4 other customers with adolescent children in the same day!) I rented a bike for 4 days only to find out half an hour later that the tyre was flat because it had been repaired at least 12 times before -- to which the owner threatened that I had to pay on my own to put on a new tyre. When I alsio realized that the engine was in such a bad state that it could not take me anywhere, I went and tried to get my money back, to which I was phisically treatened if I did not leave the shop. When I came back with the police (to which he laughed at my face), I realized thaT they know him very well -- the apparently non-english speaking policeman listened only to the shop owner never giving any attention to my complaints, only to leave me after 10 minutes in front of the shop. So, please avoid this shop!!!

Its hand-rolled masala incense sticks come in the most unique scents. Lotus, Moon, Opium...

Other stores give you more for the same price, Rs50, but their's does not smell as good. Light, compact, and unique -- good for gifting too.

Ram ji ka mava: Pushkar Pedas!

Now these are cushions!

Sheer coincidence that I bumped into it. It's almost purposely kept so no one finds it, through a closet door of sorts. But the desserts lane of Pushkar is so small that once you're there you will find it.

The guy sells a very unique kind of mithai (dessert) that I have not found anywhere else. The very friendly elderly fellow who runs it calls it peda, I call it Pushkar Peda. They have a shelf life of over a month. Ten days old will taste only a day old, two days old will taste a few hours old, so said the proud owner. After some sampling I can vouch it all true. No preservatives. Melt in your mouth. On the sugary side, but definitely a good edible gift to pass along.

Oh, and guess what, this is the only thing the guy sells.

What to buy: (Pushkar) Pedas

What to pay: Rs220 a kilo, I think.

The design of the women's kurtas and sundresses here are different from the rest of the stores we saw. So are the cuts. Nice variety. Energetic young fellow but you will do well to bargain :)

What to pay: Rs200 to Rs400
