DO NOT ever take the flowers from holymen even offered for FREE. Take off your shoes when entering the ghat, and from there you are likely to face with ‘fake’ holymen who try to take you in the Hinduism ritual something. Start with a handful of petals, saying “No money, no money it’s a gift,” followed by a pray, Holy Bhrama Holy Vishnu Holy Ganesh I’m giving a donation of 100 Rupees……WHAT !?! Then they say "You promised Gods and you cannot betray Gods" which sounds a little scary to me. Anyway, only give donation if you really ‘feel like’ doing so or just try to walk away – no guilt.
Fun Alternatives: Go to smaller ghats, away from touts and other tourists
If you are by the lake you may be approached by a holy man. He will take you down to the lakes edge and want to bless you.
Nothing wrong with this. However, they seem to want loads of money for giving you this blessing!
Unique Suggestions: Often they will ask 2000 rupees, but according to a guide we met, giving 100 rupees is fine.
Fun Alternatives: If you are staying in one of the campsites and you don't want to get involved in blessings etc, they will give you a wristband and "dot" your forehead to make it look like you have already been blessed. The idea of this being to put off the holy men. See the photo for that look!
these gaily dressed girls were seen sitting together .They posed for a picture. Then they started pestering us for money .More and more colourlfuly clad girls joined we had to give money to each of them. Then we noticed that this was a routine way of earning daily bread . Next time we saw painted girls asking for a photo we politely told them a firm NO

This is another very common tourist trap in the Gaths area....
It works like this...You will be stopped by few beautifull girls asking to talk to you, then tiem is passing by and they will offer you to havea Lenne...Once you accept, then you gotta pay.
It could be ok, but 99 times on 100 the work is also bad made...so.... up to you!
This is the tipical tourist trap in Pushkar.
Once you will be walking near the Gaths area, you will meet a lot of people leaving in your hand some small coloured flower, telling you that this is a holy flower that has to be trought in the Lake.
Well, this is nothing then a torusit trap. Once you take in hand the flower, those people will expect you to pay them...Simple...
Another very common thing that will definitely happend to you during your stay in India is this: You will take somewhen a rickshaw or whatever to reach a site, and they will definitely bring you in some shop (a shop of a friend or a brother or whatever). Keep in mind that the owner of the shop will pay the driver a commision cuz he brought there some tourist and clearly the prices of the goods will increase...
So, be strong and tell to the driver that you will not leave the rickshaw! This is the only thing that works out...
Once you would need the service of an agency, for example to book a train ticket or whatever, before to agree for somehting, ask them which is the % or value of their services.
So, before to confirm something, bergain also about the provvision!!!!
On arrival in Pushkar you will be expected to take a puja, which is a small Hindu ceremony performed down on the ghatts on the lake, after the Puja you will have a bracelet of red and yellow fibre tied around your wrist to testify you have been blessed.
Unique Suggestions: The Puja itself I found a very pleasent experience even though i am not the religeous type, You will be pestered to take this Puja until you have the bracelet so it makes sense to arrange for a Brahmin known to the hotel you stay at to perform it for you, this way saves the hassle of being pestered. After the Puja you will be asked to pay the priest, this is the sticky one , he will ask for an extortionate amount so try be diplomatic and pay only what you think is fair for the experience, I paid 100 rupees and was told this was too much so don`t let him give you any sob stories, they really can make you feel guilty so don`t crumble easy
