Fishing boats on Sindudurgh beach

A little village on the Konkan coast. The food is the best part about this place - a must must try is the Sol Kadi. And seafood lovers will lick their fingers. However, there is enough choice for us vegetarians as well. That is what I love about India - no more fretting about whether I will get veggie food or not!!!!

Mussel shell on the beach

This is THE BEST BEACH I've been to in India. Yes, when you say beach in India, Goa comes to mind. But if you are like me and want only a beach for itself, then this is the place to be. The sand is softer than talcum powder and the most important thing is that it is empty!! My husband and I had miles of sea and sand to ourselves - with the occasional crab for company.

The fort

This is an architectural feat. The fort is a few hundred years old and is built quite far from the shore in the sea. This is one of Shivaji's many forts and one of the most unique things on this fort is a coconut tree with a branch!! It happened courtesy a stormy rainy night where a part of it (I think) was hit by lightening and the resulting hole produced a branch. There is a tunnel in the fort which leads to another castle far far away - under the sea bed. Although the fort is a state of disrepair, it still is magnificent.
