Mineral Water !

by coceng

I was in India in May & June, the hottest months in India so my tips would revolve around my OWN experiences there.Yes, mineral water !Most important for me.Always check if the cap is properly sealed.Normally no problem but occasionally we would find that seals were broken off & the plastic bottles could be filled in with tap water !Any brand would do, normally priced at Rs 10 or Rs 12 (around the touristy places). It's pretty easy to find cold mineral water but in some areas, the weather was so hot even the mineral water was warm.Politely ask for a cooler one & they would let you choose.

All over: Street Food Worth the Risk

by ChartIt

The Jalebi can be found among vendors all over Northern India. I was reluctant to try them, for fear of all that street vendor food warnings. It is true, you need to make sure they are made in front of you, that they are made in hot oil. I gave these babies a shot a few days before i left, knowing I would be in able to be sick for a little while if nessesary as we were not changing towns for a few days. And I havent regretted it! It was less then 30 rupies. They are a small fried dough, they remind me of funnel cakes on a small scale. But they are then soaked in a lovely orange syrup. They were tasty. And I havent forgotten them!

The Yazdani Restaurant and Bakery,: Breakfast In Mumbai -- IF you can find it ;-)

by into-thin-air

One small problem that we did have in Mumbai was finding somewhere for a Good Breakfast !!We discovered The Yazdani Restaurant and bakery, In Truth it isn’t much of a restaurant but the bakery is Great, The fresh bread in the morning made a wonderful breakfast and only a few rupees !!Give it a try, if you can find it, it is down a back street that runs parallel with M.G. Road, to the left as you are heading away from CST.Sorry I can’t be more precise, if you find this place then please forward me the address for this place and I will update this tip ;-)

Restaurant at Hotel Green: Final and maybe Best ! -- Pathankot

by into-thin-air

On arrival at Pathankot we were both Starving and had no Idea where to find some Good Food !! – Pathankot barely gets a mention in Lonely Planet !!So, I asked the Station Master at Pathankot Railway Station where he would recommend and he directed us to The Green Restaurant, beneath The Hotel Green. The Food was Wonderful, I had fish and it was comparable to the fish that I ate in Goa, Considering The Punjab isn’t renowned for fish dishes I was both pleasantly surprised and Very happy !!Great service and fair prices

Alpha café: Shimla – Great Place to Hang Out !!

by into-thin-air

This is a great place to People Watch, the window seats look out directly at Scandal Point so you can watch all the comings and goings, Good Food, fairly simple menu but not expensive. When the weather turned bad we spent a lot of time in here and were treated well by the friendly staff

Tip Photo
The Devicos Restaurant & Bar: Shimla - Our Favourite Restaurant

by into-thin-air

Although this is a Tourist Restaurant, The prices were fair, The Food was very good and the choices on the menu were good !!Be warned that The Channa salad is HOTThe beer is a bit expensive but everywhere is more or less the same and at least here you are drinking it in comfort ;-)

T.C.’s Restaurant: Very Popular place in Ahmedabad

by into-thin-air

This is a Very Popular meeting place in Ahmedabad. As Gujarat is a Dry State, the better off local youth have to congregate somewhere and T.C.’s Restaurant was one such venue !!The food was very Good, The Nilgiri Tea was the best that I have ever tasted, Prices were a little high, and I have had better service but this is still “The Place” to go whilst in Ahmedabad !!

RasRaa Restaurant: Mumbai - Another local restaurant for you to try

by into-thin-air

Here is another smaller local restaurant for you to try, Right next door to the Vaibhav Restaurant, this is a smaller place but the food and it is very reasonably priced and is also very good, the service was ok but they close fairly early in the evening !!

Tip Photo
Vaibhav Deluxe Veg Restaurant: Mumbai -- Local Restaurant for your to try !!??

by into-thin-air

We tended to eat in the smaller local restaurants whilst visiting Mumbai, we only went to one “Tourist” restaurant and although the food was good, it was very Expensive !!So, Here and in the next two tips are a few Good Quality Local restaurants to give a try, The food was good, the service was fine and they were a Lot cheaper than the ones mentioned in The Lonely Planet !!

Tip Photo
The Hard Rock Café: Another Great Place on Benaulim Beach

by into-thin-air

Our Next most favourite restaurant to Johnny’s was “The Hard Rock Café” This was a Much smaller establishment, But run by a really friendly guy and the food was Great – Especially the breakfasts !! Great Food at a Very Reasonable price. Also this was a good place to catch a few rays during the day, The Hard Rock Café has comfortable sun-beds and these are provided Free of charge as long as you have a drink or a snack now and again – But they won’t hassle you !!Just a Great Relaxing place to hang out :-)
