Although a strictly vegetarian town, the choice of food is wonderful. The Moonlight Cafe, run by very friendly Nepalese, alone will stretch the imagination of any vegetarian chef. The breakfasts there will set you up for the day, with their delicious Fruit Muesli Curd and fresh squeezed fruit juices. For supper, why not try their belly busting vegetable sizzler. The food here is so wholesome that the local Ayurvedic doctor recommends it to travellers suffering from the inevitable runs, picked up in other regions of India.
Favorite Dish: They have a breakfast geared to every part of the world.

For some fun eating, you must visit the rival Chotiwala restaurants in Swarg Ashram. They are next door to each other, run by rival brothers, with painted blue and pink men sitting outside to attract you in. The food all over Rishikesh is a treat but see our WARNINGS OR DANGERS for a caution.
Favorite Dish: Excellent Indian cuisine, stuffed parathas and thalis.

This is very famous Restaurant Chotiwala in in Tapovan or Swargashram. One can enjoy the best Indian Thali (of course vegetarin). Now they provide sweets, vegetable burgars , pav bhaji and masala chai also.
history:In the early days of this resturent there used to be a waiter who had a big tummy and had a long choti( a holi tail on head usually had by brahmins and pupils).Although he looks funny but he used to serve food with great love and affection. The customers not only remeber the food but also remember the waiter(Choti wala) for his funny look and affectinate service.Evan today there is mock chotiwala waiter is there to welcome you at the reception.
Favorite Dish: Thali best here for lunch and dinner as it contains chapati, sabji, daal, dahi, rice, pickle & a sweet.

A unique name for a restaurant - Chotiwala (means one with a ponytail), serves up good and cheap vegetarian food. There is a man who paints himself pink and sits outside the restaurant all day. It is easy to think of him as a statue and he has a ponytail therefore the name of the restaurant. Though the ponytail is not the usual kind...it stands poker straight like a cone head.
