The great Ranthambhor Fort is the oldest Fort in Rajasthan, bult in 944 A.D. by Chauhan's perched atop a creek 200 mts above the forested valley, it is built on an awesome scale. Its massive ramparts, gates and bastions sent a stern message to its enemies. Rao Hamir, the most valiant ruler, is said to have refused to bow his head before Khilji, despite the severe food shortage and lack of other provisions. Though the palace lies in ruins, there are still a few ancient landmarks, the visitor can see.You can see panoramic views of the park from its high walls.

Rufous Treepie

Latin name: Dendrocitta vagabunda

A really common bird which becomes quite tame in places. In fact, as you can see, it was so tame that it would eat from your hand!

Usually found in open wooded country and gardens with trees and bushes, the treepie will grow to a maximum size of 50 cm.

Found mainly on and around inland wetlands, the spoonbill with grow to a maximum size of 90 cm.

I find it fascinating to watch they way they feed, using their odd shaped beaks to sieve the fish from the water.

Darter and Ibis

Also known as the Snake Bird.

The darter often swims with its body submerged with just its long, slim neck above water, making it look like a snake - hence its name.
