Irani Hotels, Hyderabad

There are many Irani cafes all over the twin cities.They are simple,"no frills" places usually with marble top tables.However if you are a first time visitor to the city you simply must taste the tea here.it is sweet and milky and thick.they use condensed milk to make it,I am told!

Favorite Dish: Triangular samosas and tea.These are an all time favourite of Hyderabadis.

The irani cafes are part of everyone in hyderbad. everyone will visit a irani cafe atleast once in a day.
These are the best hangouts for all ages. Most of them go there to just talk. Order for a cup of tea, share with your friends ( 1/2 cup each is the normal equation). You will get some osmania buiscuits, which taste good. You cant stop eating these buiscuits.

Few things to observe , you will be served with a full place of osmania biscuts , samosa or mirchi bajjis, but will be charged for what you consumed.So, dont get tempted to finish the whole plate.

These are very inexpensive places, so dont expect it to be very clean. You should ask for a mineral water bottle. The cost for a CHAI will be Rs 3 , Samosas/ Mirchi Rs 3 each. Osmania will be Rs 5 per plate. Your trip should not cost more than Rs 50 if you try everything in the cafe.

Favorite Dish: My personal preferences here :
Morning : A cup of CHAI (tea as it is called), with osmania buiscuits.
Afternoon : A cup of chai
Evening : A cup of chai with samosa or Mirchi ( specially when its raining or the weather is cold)

You walk in an Irani hotel when you are waiting for someone, when u have nothin better to do, or you wanna give a party, or if u have to settle a fight. A trip to Hyderabad would never be complete until you visit one of the many Irani cafes all over the city. The waiter shouts "Ek Chai La Re" and gets it himself(!!!!) to serve to his customers. We are talking of Irani Hotels where some people build their lives around it. They sit for hours and hours and chat with friends, families and even strangers!!!. Irani hotels are an excellent place to read the pulse of the people of hyderabad. Whats hot, what the economic situation of the country, cricket, who will form the next Govt, or most of the time who should be the captain of the country's cricket team, it's all decided here. Iranis hotel can go only one way and that is successful way. You will also find that the names of these hotels are most ingenious aswell. One more thing, the comfort levels might not always be acceptable, like the fans wont be running and even if they are running the management will not run them to save electricity, so u might have to ask the waiter to switch on the fan. The seats are not at all cushy or comfortable, most of the time it is hotin here, but all of it makes u wonder what makes people sit here for a long time, a really long time.....

Favorite Dish: Every one likes the chota samosa made out of onions that are special to any Irani Hotel. Fine Biscuit, and the world famous Osmania biscuits were born from this concept called Irani Hotel. Have a Irani chai and you would love it. And all of it so cheap that i could not pratically rate it on the "Price per person category"""!!! Some of the good ones are Embassy Hotel, Basheerbagh; Red Rose Panjagutta; Banjara Durbar, Banjara Hills; Hotel Paradise, Paradise Circle. Shadab, Charminar; Madina Hotel, Charminar.

If you want to have typical Hyderabadi food....just hit this place.


At first sight this place may not appeal to you...but don't go on to its sight...just appreciate the taste....you cannot get best Hyderabadi Chicken Biryani anywhere else in Hyderabad!!! Take my word for it!!!

Favorite Dish: the biryani - chicken & mutton, ofcourse! this place is the best for this kind of food - you should see the crowd there!
We went in at 1530 hrs. and people were haveing Biryani for tea!
