Husain Sagar Lake and its precincts: Beautiful Birla Mandir

  • The Birla Mandir (Hindu Temple) is located at the top of Kala Pahad, the twin hills of the Naubat Pahad. It is built entirely out of white marble from Rajasthan and took ten years to build. It is a shrine to Lord Venkateshwara. There is an 11 foot tall idol in the inner sanctum that is sculpted from black granite and is a replica of the one at Tirupati.

The temple is especially beautiful when lit at night. No photography is allowed inside. Non-Hindus are not allowed in the inner sanctum and no shoes allowed anywhere.

If you are a Hindu and want to bring an offering, you must buy it before going up to the temple. There are no places up at the top.

    Open 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Hyderabad has one of the worlds largest freestanding stone Buddha statues. It is a fairly recent creation and work only began about 20 years ago. It is about 18 M high and it can be seen from almost any place in the area. It was transported from the city on a barge and during the transportation of the statue the barge sank killing eight people. The statue laid under water for two years until local authorites raised it from under the water unharmed, amazing. You can get boats to the platform for around 20 rupees but it is probably best enjoyed from the banks at sunset.

  • Husain Sagar Lake and Lumbini Park
Husain Sagar lake is the main attraction of Hyderabad....

This huge lake has a statue of Buddha at its heart...this several feet tall statue was submerged in the lake during its installation

You get a boat ride around this statue!!!

    Lumbini Park
Lumbini Park is also a must visit place because of its musical fountains.....a nice place to relax in the evening after tiring out the whole day.

Its open on Sundays....why need to mention it??? Market is closed on Sundays in Hyderabad

    Tank Bund Road
This is a road which goes by the side of the lake...This is the best place to go for walks during night after dinner or early in the morning....

The unique thing about this road is its not only traffic place...but has beautifully carved statues on its both sides....the statues of the saint in AndhraPradesh and the people who have added riches to Telugu Literature...

Telugu is the language of state of AndhraPradesh!!!
