Bechtel Beach is the name dubbed by many of the locals for a section of beach between Jamnagar and Dwarka due to the regular visits by Bechtel contract workers who spent their weekends there.

The locals call it Okha Mati Beach. There are no services provided. You must bring all your own supplies, food, drinks, transportation, etc.

The beaches extend for many kilometers. There may be the occasional wondering camels on the sand dunes near the beaches too.

Near to the sand dunes by "Bechtel Beach" (see my other tip), there are many miles of migratory foot paths used by the camels and their shepherds.

As long as you approach slowly and do not scare them, the camels will allow you to get very close.

If you are in Jamnagar, you have already made it farther into the heart of no-man's land than the average traveler.

But you will now find yourself about 120km east of the Hindu pilgrimage point of Dwarka. It is definitely worth it to take a day trip to visit the temples, the coast and the camels along the way. See my Dwarka page.

Dotted throughout Jamnagar are several fabric stores that sell sauree's and other native shirts and robes.

What to buy: The saurees in Jamnagar are unique to the area and several of the Indians I was dealing with said they load up their suitcases when they visit the area. The quality of silk is fantastic, as well as the unique colors and patterns that are typical Gujarati.

What to pay: Men's shirt 400~800 rupees
    Women's sauree ~1600 rupees
