Watch out for these guys. They're everywhere in Shimla. One place where they can swoop down from above and surprise you is near the Indian Coffee House near Scandal Point where telephone lines cross over the road. You can see them running and hopping along roof tops and generally being a complete nuisance but when they're lying out in the sun, they are very cute.
From time to time around these parts, a newspaper story appears about a panther ravaging someone. When I last visited, it was claimed that a panther had managed to get right onto the 'Mall' itself, the center of the town.
I rather enjoyed the reportage that the man in question 'escaped with serious injuries'. Quite how you 'escape with serious injuries', I'm not quite sure ; but I can see what he meant.
I strongly suggest you carry a large tin of Kitekat (Rabbit and duck flavour) to ward of any large pussycats.
i addressed India [especially Shimla and Kufri] as the land of Hanuman --half human and animal; monkey. Since i found so many monkeys in these areas. from the hills, valleys, also its towns! from himalayan park Kufri, to the Mall Road of Shimla!
be ware towards these animals, do not disturb them, no need to make eye contact with them, since this action make them going closer and becomes aggresive. and whenever you looks calm and pretend doesn't see them, anything just fine :)
We didn't have a problem with the monkeys, however I know that they can be a problem. We were warned not to eat food outside.
